2. Setup

2.1 Base Unit Connection

  1. Power Connection: Connect the AC adapter to the base unit's power jack and plug the other end into a standard electrical outlet.
  2. Telephone Line Connection: Connect one end of the telephone line cord to the LINE 1 jack on the base unit and the other end to your telephone wall jack. For 2-line operation, connect a second telephone line cord to the LINE 2 jack and to another telephone wall jack.

2.2 Handset Battery Installation and Charging

  1. Install Battery: Open the battery compartment cover on the back of the handset. Connect the battery pack connector to the jack inside the compartment, ensuring correct polarity. Place the battery pack into the compartment and replace the cover.
  2. Charge Handset: Place the handset in the charging cradle or on the base unit. The charge indicator light on the handset or base will illuminate. Allow the handset to charge for at least 15-20 hours before initial use to ensure full battery capacity.

2.3 Handset Registration

Your handsets are typically pre-registered to the base unit. If a handset displays "Unregistered" or you purchase an accessory handset (DCX400), you will need to register it:

  1. On the base unit, press and hold the REGISTER button for approximately 5 seconds until the registration indicator light flashes.
  2. On the handset, navigate to the MENU, then select REGISTRATION. Follow the on-screen prompts to enter the PIN (default is 0000).
  3. Once registered, the handset will display its assigned number (e.g., HS 1).

3. Operating Instructions

3.1 Making and Receiving Calls

  • To Make a Call: Pick up the handset, press the TALK button, select the desired line (LINE 1 or LINE 2), and dial the number. Alternatively, dial the number first, then press TALK.
  • To Receive a Call: When the phone rings, press the TALK button on any handset.
  • To End a Call: Press the END button or place the handset back in the charging cradle.

3.2 Using Caller ID / Call Waiting

  • Caller ID: When a call comes in, the caller's name and number will display on the handset screen (requires subscription to Caller ID service from your phone company).
  • Call Waiting: If you are on a call and another call comes in, you will hear a tone. Press the FLASH or TALK button to switch to the incoming call (requires subscription to Call Waiting service).

3.3 Voicemail Access

This system does not include an integrated answering machine. Voicemail access is provided through your telephone service provider's voicemail service. You can program a one-touch voicemail access key:

  1. Go to MENU on the handset.
  2. Select VOICEMAIL SETUP.
  3. Enter your voicemail access number provided by your service provider.
  4. Press and hold the 1 key on the handset to dial your voicemail.

3.4 Phonebook Management

  • Add Entry: Go to MENU > PHONEBOOK > ADD ENTRY. Enter the name and number, then save.
  • Search Entry: Press the PHONEBOOK button or navigate via MENU. Use the arrow keys to scroll or enter the first letter of the name.
  • Edit/Delete Entry: Select the desired entry from the phonebook, then choose EDIT or DELETE from the options.
  • Phonebook Transfer: You can transfer phonebook entries between registered handsets. Refer to the handset menu for the 'Transfer Phonebook' option.

3.5 Intercom and Call Transfer

  • Intercom: To call another handset, press the INTERCOM button, then dial the handset number (e.g., 2 for Handset 2).
  • Call Transfer: During an external call, press the MENU button, select TRANSFER, then dial the desired handset number. You can announce the call before transferring.

3.6 5-Way Conference Calling

This feature allows you to have a conversation with two external parties and two internal handsets simultaneously. Consult your phone company for specific instructions on enabling 3-way calling for external lines, then use the handset's conference feature to add internal parties.

3.7 Do Not Disturb Mode

Activate this mode via the handset MENU to silence incoming calls for a specified period or until manually deactivated. Calls will still go to voicemail if available.

3.8 Handset Speakerphone

During a call, press the SPEAKER button to activate the speakerphone function. Press it again to switch back to the earpiece.

4. Maintenance

4.1 Cleaning

Wipe the phone system with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use liquid or aerosol cleaners. Ensure the phone is unplugged from the wall outlet before cleaning.

4.2 Battery Care

  • Use only the specified rechargeable battery pack.
  • If the handset will not be used for an extended period, remove the battery to prevent leakage.
  • Dispose of used batteries according to local regulations. Do not incinerate.

5. Troubleshooting

No dial tone:
Ensure the base unit's power adapter is securely plugged into an electrical outlet and the telephone line cord(s) are properly connected to the wall jack(s) and the base unit.
Poor call quality / Static / Interference:
Move the handset closer to the base unit. Ensure the base unit is not placed near other electronic devices (e.g., Wi-Fi routers, microwaves, computers) that may cause interference. DECT 6.0 technology is designed to be Wi-Fi friendly, but extreme proximity can still cause issues.
Handset not charging:
Verify the handset is correctly seated in the charging cradle or on the base unit. Check that the charging contacts on both the handset and cradle are clean. Ensure the battery pack is properly installed in the handset.
Caller ID not displaying:
Confirm that you have subscribed to Caller ID service from your telephone service provider. Ensure the phone line is connected correctly.
Keys are slow to respond or handset freezes:
Remove the battery from the handset for a few minutes, then reinsert it and place the handset back on the charger. This can reset the handset.
