1. Introduction
The Intermatic PF1202T Control System is designed to manage pool and spa equipment operation, incorporating essential freeze protection. This system features two T104M mechanisms for precise scheduling and an adjustable thermostat to safeguard your equipment against freezing temperatures. It is suitable for installations requiring one or two time switches.
Key features of this control system include:
- User-adjustable thermostat for freeze protection.
- Designed for pools requiring one or two time switches.
- Protects pool and spa equipment against freeze damage.
- Automatically activates the pump and heater when outdoor temperature drops below the set point.
2. Safety Information
WARNING: To avoid serious injury or death, always disconnect power at the circuit breaker or fuse box before installing or servicing this control system. Installation and servicing should be performed by a qualified electrician in accordance with all national and local electrical codes.
- Read all instructions before installing or operating the unit.
- Ensure the power supply matches the voltage rating of the control system (240 Volts).
- Do not operate the unit with damaged wiring or if the enclosure is compromised.
- Keep the enclosure door closed and secured during operation to prevent accidental contact with live parts.
- This device is intended for outdoor use and must be installed in a location protected from direct water spray.
3. Setup and Installation
3.1. Unpacking
Carefully remove the control system from its packaging. Inspect the unit for any signs of damage during transit. Retain all packaging materials until you have confirmed the unit is in working order.
3.2. Mounting
Mount the control system vertically on a flat, rigid surface using appropriate fasteners. Ensure the mounting location allows for proper ventilation and access for wiring and maintenance. The enclosure is designed for outdoor use.
3.3. Wiring
IMPORTANT: All wiring must be performed by a qualified electrician and comply with local and national electrical codes. The unit operates at 240 Volts and has a current rating of 17 Amps. Use appropriate gauge wiring for the load. The terminal type is screw-type for secure connections.
Refer to the wiring diagram located inside the control system's door for specific connection details. Ensure all connections are tight and secure before restoring power.

Figure 1: Intermatic PF1202T Control System with the front door open. The image displays the internal components, including two yellow time switch mechanisms at the top, each with ON/OFF levers. Below these are two blank cover plates, and on the left side, a black dial for the freeze protection thermostat, labeled with temperature settings from 32°F to 44°F. The inside of the door shows a wiring diagram and product information label.
4. Operating Instructions
4.1. Setting the T104M Time Switches
The PF1202T includes two T104M time switches to control your pool or spa equipment. Each time switch allows for independent scheduling of ON/OFF cycles.
- Set Current Time: Pull out the dial and rotate it clockwise until the current time aligns with the arrow on the mechanism. Push the dial back in.
- Set ON/OFF Times: Each time switch comes with ON (green) and OFF (red) trippers. To set an ON time, slide a green tripper onto the dial at the desired ON time. To set an OFF time, slide a red tripper onto the dial at the desired OFF time. Additional trippers can be purchased separately for more complex schedules.
- Manual Override: The red lever below each dial allows for manual override. Moving the lever to "ON" or "OFF" will temporarily override the programmed schedule until the next tripper engages. Ensure the lever is in the "AUTO" position for automatic operation.
4.2. Adjusting the Freeze Protection Thermostat
The integrated freeze protection thermostat automatically activates your pump and/or heater when the ambient temperature drops to a critical level, preventing freeze damage to your plumbing and equipment.
- Locate the black dial labeled "FREEZE PROTECTION THERMOSTAT" on the lower left side of the control panel (refer to Figure 1).
- Rotate the dial to set the desired outdoor temperature at which the pump operation should begin. Common settings range from 32°F to 44°F.
- It is recommended to set the thermostat slightly above the typical freezing point for your region to provide an adequate buffer.
5. Maintenance
The Intermatic PF1202T Control System requires minimal maintenance. Regular inspection can help ensure long-term reliable operation.
- Annual Inspection: Annually, or more frequently in harsh environments, inspect the enclosure for any signs of corrosion, damage, or loose connections.
- Cleaning: Keep the exterior of the enclosure clean and free of debris. Use a soft, damp cloth for cleaning. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Wiring Check: Periodically check all wiring connections for tightness. Loose connections can lead to overheating and potential hazards.
- Thermostat Sensor: Ensure the freeze protection thermostat sensor is clear of obstructions and debris to allow for accurate temperature readings.
