The tuner is attached to a black clip with a flexible joint, designed to securely fasten onto an instrument's headstock.

Setup

  1. Battery Installation: The WST-650C tuner comes with a CR2032 lithium battery included. To install or replace the battery, locate the battery compartment on the back of the unit. Open the compartment cover, insert the CR2032 battery with the positive (+) side facing up, and close the cover securely.
  2. Attaching the Tuner: Gently open the clip mechanism and attach the tuner securely to the headstock of your instrument. Ensure the clip has a firm grip without damaging the instrument's finish.
  3. Adjusting Viewing Angle: The tuner features two 360° joints and one 180° joint. Adjust these joints to position the display for optimal viewing from your playing position.

Operating Instructions

  1. Power On/Off: The tuner automatically powers on when a signal is detected or a button is pressed. It features an automatic switch-off function to conserve battery life after a period of inactivity.
  2. Tuning Modes: The WST-650C supports two tuning modes:
    • MIC Mode: Utilizes the built-in microphone to detect sound vibrations from the air. This mode is suitable for acoustic instruments or when clipping is not feasible.
    • PIEZO Mode: Utilizes the piezo sensor within the clip to detect vibrations directly from the instrument. This mode is ideal for noisy environments as it isolates the instrument's vibrations.
  3. Tuning Scale: The tuner operates on a 12-note equal temperament scale, suitable for standard Western music.
  4. Tuning Range: The detectable tuning range is from A0 (27.50 Hz) to C8 (4186 Hz).
  5. Calibration: The calibration (A4 frequency) can be adjusted from 410 Hz to 490 Hz in 1 Hz steps. The default calibration is A4=440 Hz. Use the 'PITCH' button to adjust this setting.
  6. Precision: The tuner offers a precision of ± 1 cent, ensuring highly accurate tuning.
  7. Flat Tuning: The tuner allows for drop-tunings up to 4 semitones. This feature is useful for musicians who require lower tunings.
  8. LCD Display: The ultra-wide and bright LCD displays the detected note, pitch accuracy, and current calibration. A dual-color LCD indicates battery level.

Maintenance

  • Battery Replacement: When the battery level indicator shows low power, replace the CR2032 lithium battery promptly to ensure optimal performance. Refer to the 'Battery Installation' section under Setup.
  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the tuner's body and display. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or solvents, which may damage the finish or screen.
  • Storage: Store the tuner in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures when not in use for extended periods.

Troubleshooting

  • Tuner not powering on: Check the battery. Ensure it is correctly installed and has sufficient charge. Replace if necessary.
  • Inaccurate tuning:
    • Ensure you are in the correct tuning mode (MIC or PIEZO) for your environment. Use PIEZO mode in noisy surroundings.
    • Verify the calibration (A4 frequency) setting. It should typically be 440 Hz unless a different standard is required.
    • Ensure the tuner is securely clipped to the instrument for optimal vibration detection in PIEZO mode.
  • Display is dim or flickering: This indicates a low battery. Replace the CR2032 battery.
