1. Product Overview

The Nikon Coolpix L22 is a 12.0-megapixel digital camera designed for ease of use, featuring a 3.6x optical zoom NIKKOR glass lens and a bright 3.0-inch LCD monitor. This camera is equipped with a 3-way VR Image Stabilization System and EXPEED Image Processing for clear, vibrant images. It also includes an Easy Auto Mode with Scene Auto Selector and a Smart Portrait System to simplify photography.

2. Safety Information

• Battery Safety: Use only recommended AA-size alkaline, lithium, or Ni-MH rechargeable batteries. Do not mix old and new batteries, or different types of batteries. Insert batteries with correct polarity. Remove batteries if the camera will not be used for an extended period.
• Memory Card: Ensure the camera is off before inserting or removing the SD/SDHC memory card to prevent data corruption.
• Water and Moisture: This camera is not waterproof. Avoid exposure to water, rain, or high humidity.
• Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth for cleaning. For the lens, use a lens brush or blower to remove dust, then gently wipe with a lens cleaning cloth.
• Operating Temperature: Operate the camera within the specified temperature range (typically 0°C to 40°C / 32°F to 104°F).
• Disassembly: Do not attempt to disassemble or modify the camera. Repairs should only be performed by authorized service personnel.

3. Setup

3.1. Installing Batteries

1. Locate the battery compartment cover on the bottom of the camera.
2. Slide the latch to open the cover.
3. Insert two AA batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-) as indicated inside the compartment.
4. Close the battery compartment cover securely until it clicks into place.

3.2. Inserting a Memory Card

The Nikon Coolpix L22 uses SD or SDHC memory cards (not included). The camera also has approximately 19 MB of internal memory.

1. With the camera powered off, open the battery/memory card compartment cover.
2. Insert the SD/SDHC card into the card slot with the label facing the front of the camera until it clicks.
3. Close the compartment cover.

3.3. Initial Power On and Date/Time Setting

1. Press the ON/OFF button located on the top of the camera.
2. The first time you power on, you may be prompted to set the date and time. Use the multi-selector to navigate and adjust the settings, then press OK to confirm.

4. Operation

4.1. Basic Shooting (Easy Auto Mode)

The Easy Auto Mode automatically detects the scene and applies optimal settings.

1. Turn on the camera. It will typically start in Easy Auto Mode.
2. Frame your subject using the 3.0-inch LCD monitor.
3. Press the shutter button halfway down to focus. The camera will beep when focus is achieved, and a green focus indicator will appear.
4. Press the shutter button all the way down to take the picture.

4.2. Zoom Operation

Use the zoom control lever located around the shutter button to adjust the focal length.

• Push the lever towards W (Wide) to zoom out.
• Push the lever towards T (Telephoto) to zoom in.

4.3. Flash Modes

The built-in flash has several modes. Press the flash button (often part of the multi-selector) to cycle through modes:

• Auto: Flash fires automatically when needed.
• Fill Flash (Forced Flash): Flash fires with every shot.
• Flash Off: Flash does not fire.
• Slow Sync: For night portraits, combines flash with slow shutter speed.
• Red-eye Reduction: Fires a pre-flash to reduce red-eye effect.

4.4. Recording Movies

The Coolpix L22 can record movies with sound at 640 x 480 resolution at 30 frames per second.

1. Switch the camera to movie mode (refer to the mode dial or menu for this option).
2. Press the shutter button to start recording.
3. Press the shutter button again to stop recording.

4.5. Playback

To view captured images and videos:

1. Press the Playback button (often indicated by a triangle icon).
2. Use the multi-selector to scroll through images.
3. To play a video, select it and press OK.

5.1. Cleaning the Camera

• Camera Body: Wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use alcohol, thinners, or other volatile chemicals.
• Lens: Use a blower brush to remove dust and lint. If necessary, gently wipe with a clean, soft lens cloth. Avoid touching the lens surface with your fingers.
• LCD Monitor: Wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth. For stubborn smudges, use a specialized LCD cleaning solution applied to a cloth, not directly to the screen.

5.2. Battery Care

• Always remove batteries when the camera is not in use for extended periods to prevent leakage.
• Store batteries in a cool, dry place.
• Dispose of used batteries according to local regulations.

5.3. Storage

When storing the camera for a long time, remove the batteries and memory card. Store the camera in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
