Product Overview: Rear Panel Controls and Connections
The rear panel of the SUB8S subwoofer features all necessary controls and connection ports for integration into your home audio system.
Figure 3: Detailed view of the rear panel controls and connections.
Phase Switch (0°/180°): Adjusts the phase of the subwoofer output relative to your main speakers.
Power Indicator: Illuminates when the subwoofer is powered on.
On/Auto Off Switch: Selects between continuous power (On) or automatic power management (Auto Off). In Auto Off mode, the subwoofer enters standby after two minutes of no signal.
Gain Control (Min/Max): Adjusts the overall volume level of the subwoofer.
Crossover Control (40Hz/150Hz): Sets the upper frequency limit for the subwoofer. Frequencies above this setting will be sent to your main speakers.
Line In (L/R RCA): Low-level input for connecting to a receiver's dedicated subwoofer output (LFE or Sub Out).
Hi Level Input (From Amplifier): High-level input for connecting directly to the speaker outputs of an amplifier or receiver that lacks a dedicated subwoofer output.
Hi Level Output (To Speakers): High-level output for passing the signal from the amplifier to your main speakers when using the high-level input.
Fuse Holder: Contains the main power fuse. Replace only with the specified type.
Power Cord Inlet: Connects the subwoofer to the AC power supply.
Setup and Installation
1. Placement Options
The slim design of the SUB8S allows for versatile placement. Consider the following options:
Under Furniture: The subwoofer's 4.75-inch height allows it to slide under most sofas, beds, or entertainment centers.
Wall Mount: Use the included wall mount bracket to secure the subwoofer to a wall. Ensure the wall can support the subwoofer's weight (approximately 22 lbs).
Floor Standing: Attach the included stand mounts (feet) for floor placement.

2. Connecting the Subwoofer
Before making any connections, ensure all audio equipment is turned off and unplugged from the power outlet.
Option A: Using a Dedicated Subwoofer Output (RCA Line In)
This is the recommended connection method if your receiver or amplifier has a dedicated "Subwoofer Out" or "LFE Out" RCA jack.
Connect one end of the included RCA cable (or your own single RCA cable) to the "Subwoofer Out" or "LFE Out" jack on your receiver.
Connect the other end of the RCA cable to the "Line In" (L or R) jack on the SUB8S subwoofer. If using a single RCA cable from your receiver, you can use the included "Y" adapter to connect to both L and R inputs on the subwoofer for potentially higher signal level, though a single connection to either L or R is often sufficient.
Option B: Using High-Level Inputs (Speaker Wire)
Use this method if your receiver or amplifier does not have a dedicated subwoofer output.
Connect the speaker wires from your amplifier's main left and right speaker outputs to the "Hi Level Input" terminals on the SUB8S subwoofer. Match positive (+) to positive (+) and negative (-) to negative (-).
Connect your main left and right speakers to the "Hi Level Output" terminals on the SUB8S subwoofer. Again, match polarity.

3. Power Connection
Once audio connections are made, connect the subwoofer's power cord to a standard 110V AC wall outlet.
Operation
1. Powering On/Off
Set the "On/Auto Off" switch to "On" for continuous power. The power indicator will illuminate.
Set the "On/Auto Off" switch to "Auto Off" for automatic power management. The subwoofer will power on when an audio signal is detected and enter standby mode after approximately two minutes of no signal.
2. Adjusting Controls
Fine-tune the subwoofer's performance using the rear panel controls:
Gain Control: Start with the gain control at its minimum setting. Gradually increase it until the subwoofer's output blends seamlessly with your main speakers. Avoid setting it too high, which can result in boomy or unnatural bass.
Crossover Control: This control sets the highest frequency the subwoofer will reproduce. A good starting point is typically around 80Hz-100Hz, but this depends on the low-frequency capabilities of your main speakers. If your main speakers are small, set the crossover higher (e.g., 100Hz-120Hz). If they are larger with good bass response, set it lower (e.g., 60Hz-80Hz). Adjust by ear for the smoothest transition between the subwoofer and main speakers.
Phase Switch (0°/180°): Experiment with both 0° and 180° settings. Choose the setting that provides the most impactful and coherent bass response at your listening position. This often involves listening to music with strong bass and switching between the two settings to hear which sounds fuller and more integrated.

Maintenance
Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and performance of your subwoofer.
Cleaning: Dust the cabinet regularly with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners, waxes, or solvents.
Ventilation: Ensure that the subwoofer's ventilation openings are not obstructed by dust or debris.
Power Cord: Periodically inspect the power cord for any damage. If damaged, discontinue use and contact qualified service personnel.
