Introduction

Setup

1. Power Source

The PL-380 can be powered by three R6 (AA) batteries or via the included USB external power adapter. For optimal performance and to utilize the intelligent charging feature, it is recommended to use rechargeable nickel-metal hydride (Ni-MH) batteries (sold separately).

• Battery Installation: Open the battery compartment cover located on the back of the radio. Insert three AA batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-) as indicated inside the compartment. Close the cover securely.
• USB Power Adapter: Connect the included power adapter to the DC-IN 5V port on the side of the radio and plug it into a standard electrical outlet. The radio can operate directly from this power source and will intelligently charge Ni-MH batteries if installed.

2. Antenna

For FM and Shortwave reception, extend the telescopic antenna fully. For AM (Medium Wave) and Long Wave, the radio uses a built-in ferrite bar antenna, so no external antenna adjustment is typically needed, though orienting the radio can improve reception.

Operating Instructions

1. Power On/Off

Press the POWER button (usually red) to turn the radio on or off. The radio features a smart power switch function, allowing you to set an automatic shutdown timer from 1 to 120 minutes, or disable this feature.

2. Band Selection

Press the FM, AM/MW, LW, or SW buttons to select the desired frequency band. The selected band will be displayed on the LCD screen.

3. Tuning Methods

The PL-380 offers several methods for finding stations:

• Easy Tuning Mode (ETM): Press the ETM button. The radio will scan the current band and automatically store all found signals into a temporary ETM memory. Use the tuning dial to quickly browse through these stored stations.
• Manual Tuning (VF): Rotate the TUNING knob on the side of the radio to manually adjust the frequency.
• Stored Station Tuning (VM): Press the VM button, then use the tuning dial or number pad to select a previously stored station.

4. Volume Control

Adjust the audio output level using the VOLUME knob, typically located on the side of the radio. The PL-380 features a 30-step rotational electronic volume control.

5. Headphone Use

Connect standard 3.5mm headphones to the headphone jack on the side of the radio for private listening. When listening to FM, headphones enable stereo reception.

  • For AM/LW, try rotating the radio to improve signal strength.
  • Move away from electronic devices that may cause interference.
  • Consider atmospheric conditions, especially for Shortwave reception, which is often better at night.
• No Sound:
  • Check the volume level.
  • If headphones are connected, ensure they are fully plugged in and functional.
