1. Introduction

This manual provides essential information for the safe and effective use of your Canon PowerShot SD3500IS 14.1 MP Digital Camera. 2. Safety Information

4. Setup

4.1. Charging the Battery

  1. Insert the battery into the provided battery charger.
  2. Plug the charger into a power outlet. The charging indicator light will illuminate.
  3. Charging is complete when the indicator light changes color or turns off (refer to charger specific instructions).
  4. Remove the charged battery from the charger.

4.2. Inserting the Battery and Memory Card

  1. Open the battery/card compartment cover on the bottom of the camera.
  2. Insert the charged Lithium-Ion battery, ensuring correct orientation.
  3. Insert a compatible SD, SDHC, or SDXC memory card into the card slot until it clicks into place.
  4. Close the compartment cover securely.

4.3. Initial Power On and Basic Settings

  1. Press the power button to turn on the camera.
  2. The initial setup screen will appear. Use the touch panel LCD to select your preferred language, set the date, and time.

5. Operating the Camera

5.2. Taking Photos

  1. Power On: Press the power button.
  2. Select Mode: Use the mode switch (typically on the top or side) to select a shooting mode (e.g., Auto, Program, Movie).
  3. Framing: Compose your shot using the 3.5-inch touch panel LCD.
  4. Zoom: Use the zoom lever around the shutter button to adjust the 5x optical zoom.
  5. Focus: Lightly press the shutter button halfway down to focus. The camera will automatically detect faces or allow you to touch the screen for Touch AF/AE.
  6. Shoot: Press the shutter button fully down to take the picture.

5.3. Using the Touch Panel LCD

The 3.5-inch touch panel LCD allows for intuitive control:

  • Touch AF/AE: Tap on the screen to set focus and exposure for a specific area.
  • Menu Navigation: Swipe and tap to navigate through camera menus and settings.
  • Playback: Swipe left or right to browse photos, pinch to zoom in/out.
  • Customization: Customize touch screen icons for quick access to frequently used functions.

5.4. Shooting Modes

The camera offers various shooting modes to suit different situations:

  • Smart AUTO: The camera intelligently selects from 22 predefined settings to optimize your shot.
  • Program (P): Allows more control over settings while the camera sets exposure.
  • Scene Modes: Includes options like Miniature Effect and Fisheye Effect for creative photography.

5.5. Recording HD Movies

The PowerShot SD3500IS can record 720p HD movies.

  1. Set the mode switch to movie mode.
  2. Press the movie record button (usually a red dot) to start recording.
  3. Press the button again to stop recording.
  4. Movies are recorded at 1280 x 720 resolution at 30 frames per second.

5.6. Playback and Review

  1. Press the playback button to enter playback mode.

6. Maintenance

6.1. Cleaning the Camera

7. Troubleshooting
