Microsoft Wireless Mobile Mouse 3500 Instruction Manual

Model: GMF-00010

1. Introduction

The Microsoft Wireless Mobile Mouse 3500 is designed for portability and versatile use. Featuring BlueTrack Technology, it offers precise tracking on a variety of surfaces. Its compact, ambidextrous design ensures comfort for both left and right-handed users. The mouse connects wirelessly via a nano transceiver, providing a clutter-free experience.

Key Features:

  • Ambidextrous Design: Provides comfort and control for either hand.
  • BlueTrack Technology: Enables remarkable tracking on virtually any surface, combining optical power with laser precision. (Note: Does not work on clear glass or mirrored surfaces.)
  • Snap-in Nano Transceiver: Stows conveniently in the bottom of the mouse for easy transport.
  • Extended Battery Life: One AA battery provides up to 8 months of battery life.
  • On/Off Switch: Conserves battery power when the mouse is not in use.

2. Setup

2.1. Installing the Battery

  1. Locate the battery compartment on the underside of the mouse.
  2. Slide the battery compartment cover open.
  3. Insert one AA alkaline battery, ensuring correct polarity (+/-).
  4. Close the battery compartment cover until it clicks securely into place.

The mouse requires one AA battery for operation. A battery status indicator will signal when power is low.

2.2. Connecting the Nano Transceiver

  1. Locate the nano transceiver, which is typically stored inside the battery compartment or packaged alongside the mouse.
  2. Plug the nano transceiver into an available USB 2.0 port on your PC, laptop, or desktop computer.
  3. The computer should automatically detect and install the necessary drivers.
  4. Turn on the mouse using the On/Off switch located on the underside. A blue light will illuminate, indicating it is active.

No additional software installation is required for basic functionality on Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP (excluding Windows XP 64-bit), or Mac computers.

3. Operating the Mouse

3.1. Basic Controls

  • Left Button: Primary click function (e.g., selecting items, opening links).
  • Right Button: Secondary click function (e.g., opening context menus).
  • Scroll Wheel: Scroll up or down through documents and web pages. The scroll wheel can also function as a middle click button.

3.2. BlueTrack Technology

The mouse utilizes Microsoft's BlueTrack Technology, allowing it to track on a wider range of surfaces than traditional optical or laser mice. This includes rough surfaces like park benches or carpets. For optimal performance, avoid using the mouse on clear glass or mirrored surfaces, as these materials may interfere with tracking.

3.3. Ambidextrous Design

The symmetrical design of the Wireless Mobile Mouse 3500 ensures comfortable use for both left-handed and right-handed individuals, providing equal control and ergonomic support.

4. Maintenance

4.1. Battery Conservation

To maximize battery life, always use the On/Off switch located on the underside of the mouse when it is not in use or when transporting it. The mouse is designed to provide up to 8 months of battery life with typical usage.

4.2. Cleaning

To clean your mouse, gently wipe it with a soft, lint-free cloth. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials, as these may damage the surface.

5. Troubleshooting

5.1. Mouse Not Responding

  • Ensure the mouse is turned on using the On/Off switch.
  • Check that the nano transceiver is securely plugged into a working USB port. Try a different USB port if necessary.
  • Replace the AA battery if the battery status indicator shows low power or if the mouse is unresponsive.
  • Ensure the mouse is within range of the transceiver (typically up to 30 feet or 10 meters).

5.2. Inaccurate Tracking

  • Avoid using the mouse on clear glass or mirrored surfaces, as BlueTrack Technology may not function correctly on these.
  • Clean the optical sensor on the underside of the mouse with a soft, dry cloth.
  • Try using the mouse on a different surface to see if performance improves.
