5. Setup
5.1 Connecting to a Television
To connect your DVD recorder to a television, choose one of the following connection methods:
- Component Video Connection (Recommended for best quality):
Connect the Component Video Output (Y, Pb, Pr) jacks on the DVD recorder to the corresponding Component Video Input jacks on your TV using component video cables. Connect the Audio L/R Output jacks on the DVD recorder to the Audio L/R Input jacks on your TV using audio cables.
- A/V (Composite Video) Connection:
Connect the Video Output jack on the DVD recorder to the Video Input jack on your TV using a composite video cable (yellow). Connect the Audio L/R Output jacks on the DVD recorder to the Audio L/R Input jacks on your TV using audio cables (red and white).
5.2 Power Connection
Plug the supplied power cord into the AC IN socket on the rear of the DVD recorder, then plug the other end into a standard AC wall outlet.
6. Operating Instructions
6.1 Basic Playback
- Turn on your TV and select the correct input source for the DVD recorder.
- Press the POWER button on the unit or remote control to turn on the DVD recorder.
- Press the OPEN/CLOSE button to open the disc tray.
- Place a DVD or CD disc onto the tray with the label side facing up.
- Press the OPEN/CLOSE button again to close the tray. Playback will usually start automatically. If not, press the PLAY button.
6.2 Recording to DVD-R/RW
- Insert a blank DVD-R or DVD-RW disc into the disc tray.
- Select the input source you wish to record from (e.g., TV tuner, Front A/V input). Use the INPUT SELECT button on the remote or front panel.
- Press the RECORD button to begin recording. The recording indicator will illuminate.
- To stop recording, press the STOP button.
- Recording Modes: Access the menu to select from 6 available recording modes, which determine the recording quality and duration on the disc.
6.3 Finalizing Discs
For recorded DVD-R/RW discs to be playable on other DVD players, they must be finalized. The Emerson EWR10D5 features auto finalizing. Refer to the on-screen menu for manual finalizing options if needed.
6.4 Parental Lock
The parental lock feature allows you to restrict playback of certain content based on rating levels. Access this feature through the system settings menu and follow the on-screen prompts to set a password and desired restriction level.
