2.2 Charging the Battery

2.3 Inserting the Battery and Memory Card

Open the battery/memory card cover on the bottom of the camera. Insert the charged EN-EL12 battery according to the polarity indicators. Insert an SD/SDHC/SDXC memory card (sold separately) into the card slot until it clicks into place. Close the cover securely.

3. Operating the Camera

3.1 Power On/Off

Press the ON/OFF button located on the top of the camera to power it on or off. The lens will extend when powered on.

To take a photo, frame your subject on the LCD screen. Press the shutter button halfway down to focus, then press it completely to capture the image. The camera will automatically adjust settings in Auto mode.

The Coolpix S8000 supports HD (720p) movie recording. To start recording, press the dedicated Movie Record button. Press it again to stop recording. Videos are recorded with stereo sound.

Use the zoom lever around the shutter button to adjust the 10x optical zoom. Push the lever towards 'T' for telephoto (zoom in) and 'W' for wide-angle (zoom out).
