2. Setup

2.1. Charging the Battery

The camera uses a rechargeable Lithium-ion battery. Before first use, fully charge the battery using the supplied charger.

  1. Insert the battery into the battery charger.
  2. Connect the charger to a power outlet. The charging indicator will illuminate.
  3. Once charging is complete, the indicator will turn off. Disconnect the charger from the power outlet and remove the battery.

A fully charged battery provides approximately 230 images or 115 minutes of still image recording.

2.2. Inserting the Battery and Memory Card

Ensure the camera is turned off before inserting or removing the battery or memory card.

  1. Open the battery/memory card cover located on the bottom of the camera.
  2. Insert the charged battery into the battery compartment with the correct orientation, ensuring it clicks into place.
  3. Insert a compatible Memory Stick Duo/PRO Duo/PRO-HG Duo or SD/SDHC memory card into the memory card slot until it clicks. Ensure the card is inserted in the correct direction.
  4. Close the battery/memory card cover securely.

Memory cards are sold separately. Sony SD memory cards are recommended for optimal performance.

3. Operating the Camera

3.1. Basic Photography Modes

The DSC-W330 offers several modes to simplify photography.

  • Intelligent Auto (iAuto) Mode: This mode automatically detects the scene (e.g., landscape, portrait, macro, low light) and adjusts camera settings for optimal results. Simply point and shoot.
  • Easy Shooting Mode: Designed for beginners, this mode simplifies the camera interface by displaying basic instructions on the LCD and setting all functions to automatic. It works in conjunction with Intelligent Scene Recognition.

3.2. Advanced Features

  • SteadyShot Image Stabilization: This feature helps to reduce blur in photos, especially in low light or when using zoom, by compensating for camera movement.
  • Face Detection Technology: The camera can detect up to eight individual faces in a frame and automatically adjust focus, exposure, flash, and white balance to ensure clear and well-lit portraits.
  • Smile Shutter Technology: Activate this feature, and the camera will automatically take a picture when it detects a smile. You can set sensitivity and prioritize adult or child smiles.
  • Intelligent AF: This technology allows for quick and accurate autofocus, locking focus in as little as 0.3 seconds, ideal for capturing fleeting moments.
  • Scene Modes: The camera includes 10 convenient scene modes for specific shooting conditions, such as High Sensitivity, Twilight, Twilight Portrait, Soft Snap, Landscape, Beach, Snow, Underwater, Gourmet, and Pet. Select the appropriate mode for your environment to optimize settings.
  • Motion Detection: Adjusts ISO sensitivity and increases shutter speed when movement is detected, reducing blur in moving subjects.

3.3. Reviewing and Editing Images

Use the 3.0-inch Clear Photo LCD display to review your captured photos and videos.

  • In-Camera Retouching Tools: The camera offers basic editing functions such as Trimming and Red-Eye Correction directly on the device.

3.4. Connecting to a Computer

The camera can be connected to a computer via USB for transferring photos and videos.

  • Sony PMB (Picture Motion Browser) Software: The camera includes Sony PMB software (version 5.02) for transferring, sorting, and viewing your media on a compatible PC. It also offers options for burning to DVD and uploading to sharing sites.
  • PMBP (Picture Motion Browser Portable) Software: Pre-installed on the camera, PMBP allows you to pre-select videos and images and upload them directly to a compatible PC and popular internet sharing sites without additional software installation.

4. Maintenance

4.1. Cleaning the Camera

  • Camera Body: Wipe the camera body with a soft, dry cloth. For stubborn dirt, use a cloth lightly dampened with water or a mild detergent, then wipe dry.
  • Lens: Use a lens brush to remove dust, then gently wipe with a lens cleaning cloth. Do not use strong solvents or abrasive cleaners.
  • LCD Screen: Gently wipe the screen with a soft, lint-free cloth. Avoid pressing hard on the screen.

Do not expose the camera to water or excessive moisture as it is not water resistant.

4.2. Battery Care

  • Store batteries in a cool, dry place when not in use.
  • Avoid fully discharging the battery frequently to prolong its lifespan.
  • If the camera will not be used for an extended period, remove the battery.

4.3. Storage

When storing the camera for long periods, ensure it is clean and dry. Store it in a camera bag or case to protect it from dust and physical damage.
