Setup Instructions

1. Placement

Choose a flat, sturdy surface capable of supporting the weight of a 5-gallon aquarium filled with water (approximately 50 lbs or 23 kg). Avoid direct sunlight or areas with extreme temperature fluctuations.

2. Rinse Components

Rinse the aquarium, filter, and any decorations thoroughly with clean water. Do not use soap or detergents, as these can be harmful to fish.

3. Install Filter

The Tetra Whisper Internal Power Filter is designed to keep your tank clean. Position the filter inside the designated compartment at the back of the aquarium. Ensure the filter cartridge is properly inserted into the filter unit. The filter uses a foam padding that also acts as a container for the filter media, allowing water to drip through it and then through activated carbon and beneficial bacteria media before being pumped back into the tank.

4. Add Substrate and Decorations

Add a layer of aquarium gravel (not included) to the bottom of the tank. Rinse gravel thoroughly before adding. Arrange any desired decorations, ensuring they are aquarium-safe and do not have sharp edges that could harm fish.

5. Fill with Water

Carefully fill the aquarium with dechlorinated water. Use a water conditioner (not included) to remove chlorine and chloramines from tap water, which are harmful to fish. Fill to the recommended water level, typically just below the filter outflow.

6. Install LED Lighting

Attach the low-profile black cover with the integrated LED lights to the top of the aquarium. Ensure the light cable is routed correctly and plug it into a power outlet. The LED light features bright-white, energy-efficient illumination.

Operating Instructions

1. Filter Operation

Once the tank is filled and the filter is installed, plug in the filter's power cord. The filter will begin circulating and cleaning the water. Ensure there is adequate water flow and no obstructions.

2. LED Light Operation

The integrated LED lights provide illumination for your aquarium. Refer to the specific controls on your light unit for turning it on/off or adjusting settings. Some models may offer different light modes (e.g., day, night).

3. Feeding

Feed your fish small amounts of high-quality fish food once or twice a day. Avoid overfeeding, as this can lead to poor water quality. The tank cover may include a designated feeding port for convenience.

Maintenance

1. Water Changes

Perform regular partial water changes (e.g., 25% weekly) to maintain optimal water quality. Use a gravel vacuum to remove debris from the substrate. Always use dechlorinated water for refills.

2. Filter Cartridge Replacement

Replace the filter cartridge approximately every 2-4 weeks, or as needed, to ensure effective filtration. Rinse the new cartridge with dechlorinated water before inserting it into the filter unit.

3. Cleaning the Aquarium

Wipe down the inside and outside of the acrylic tank as needed to remove algae or water spots. Use an aquarium-safe cleaning pad for the interior. Avoid abrasive cleaners.

Troubleshooting

• Cloudy Water: This can be caused by overfeeding, new tank syndrome, or insufficient filtration. Reduce feeding, ensure proper filter maintenance, and consider partial water changes.
• Filter Not Working: Check if the filter is properly plugged in. Ensure the impeller is clean and free of debris. Verify the water level is sufficient for the filter to operate.
• LED Light Not Functioning: Check power connections. If the light is integrated into the hood, ensure the hood is correctly seated.
• Excessive Water Flow: If the filter flow is too strong for smaller fish, consider adding a pre-filter sponge to the intake or modifying the outflow to diffuse the current.
