Setup
- Unpacking: Carefully remove the coffee maker and all accessories from the packaging. Retain packaging for future transport or storage.
- Placement: Place the coffee maker on a flat, stable, heat-resistant surface. Ensure there is adequate clearance around the unit for ventilation. The unit dimensions are approximately 8 x 15.9 x 26.6 inches.
- Power Connection: Plug the coffee maker into a properly grounded electrical outlet. Verify that the voltage and current ratings of the outlet match the specifications on the appliance's rating label (refer to Figure 4).
- Initial Fill (Conditioning):
- Ensure the airpot is correctly positioned under the funnel.
- Open the lid of the brewing funnel.
- Pour approximately 2.2 liters (or one full airpot) of fresh, cold water into the top opening of the coffee maker. The water will flow through the system and into the airpot. This step primes the internal tank.
- Allow the unit to heat up. This may take approximately 15-20 minutes for the first cycle.
Operating Instructions
- Prepare the Airpot: Ensure the 2.2L airpot is clean and empty. Place it securely on the drip tray under the brewing funnel.
- Insert Filter and Coffee:
- Open the brewing funnel lid.
- Place a commercial-grade paper filter into the funnel.
- Add the desired amount of ground coffee into the filter. Refer to coffee packaging for recommended ratios.
- Close the brewing funnel lid securely.
- Add Water:
- Carefully pour fresh, cold water into the top opening of the coffee maker. Pour slowly to avoid splashing. The amount of water poured will determine the amount of coffee brewed. For a full airpot, pour 2.2 liters of water.
- The brewing cycle will begin automatically once water is added. Hot water will dispense into the funnel, saturating the coffee grounds.
- Brewing Process:
- Hot coffee will begin to drip into the airpot. The SplashGard funnel helps to prevent hot liquid from splashing out.
- Once the brewing cycle is complete, the dripping will stop.
- Serving: Remove the airpot from the coffee maker. The airpot is designed to keep coffee hot for extended periods. Dispense coffee by pressing the lever on the airpot lid.
Note: The coffee maker maintains a reservoir of hot water for immediate brewing. Subsequent brews will start faster than the initial conditioning cycle.
Maintenance
Regular cleaning and maintenance will ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your BUNN VPR-APS coffee maker.
- Daily Cleaning:
- After each use, remove and discard the used coffee grounds and filter.
- Wash the brewing funnel and airpot with warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and allow to air dry.
- Wipe down the exterior of the coffee maker with a damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or immerse the unit.
- Descaling (Monthly or as needed):
- Mineral deposits (scale) can build up over time, affecting performance.
- Use a commercial descaling solution recommended for coffee makers, following the product's instructions.
- Alternatively, a solution of equal parts white vinegar and water can be used. Pour the solution into the water reservoir and run a brew cycle without coffee.
- After descaling, run several cycles with fresh, clean water to rinse out any residual descaling solution.
- Storage: If storing the unit for an extended period, ensure it is clean and dry. Store in a cool, dry place.
