1. Introduction
This manual provides detailed instructions for the installation, programming, and operation of your Intermatic ET1725C Electronic 7-Day SPST Timer. This device is designed to automate the control of electrical loads with precise, up-to-the-minute scheduling. It features battery backup for power loss, up to 14 ON/OFF set points per circuit, and automatic daylight saving time corrections.
The ET1725C is an upgrade from basic mechanical time switches, offering enhanced functionality and ease of use. Its contacts can be configured as two independently operated SPST, one simultaneously operated DPST, or independently pulsed SPST for contactor and bell ringing applications. It supports multi-volt operation from 120-277 VAC, 50/60 Hz.
2. Safety Information
WARNING: Risk of electrical shock. More than one disconnect switch may be required to de-energize the equipment before servicing. Always disconnect power at the circuit breaker or fuse box before installing or servicing this timer.
Use 10-18 gauge copper conductors rated for at least 75°C (167°F) for all connections.
DO NOT REMOVE THIS INSULATOR. This insulator is critical for safe operation.
This product contains chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm (Proposition 65 warning).

3.2 Wiring
Before wiring, ensure all power to the circuit is disconnected at the main service panel. Refer to the wiring diagrams below for proper connection based on your specific application. The ET1725C supports various configurations including SPST and DPST.

Figure 3.2: Comprehensive wiring diagrams for the Intermatic ET1700 series, including configurations for ET1705-120 VAC-SPST, ET1715-SPDT (load switching), ET1725-240 VAC-DPST, ET1725-2x SPST, ET1725-2x SPST (bell ringing), and ET1725-Pulse 2x SPST (bell ringing). These diagrams illustrate connections for Timer Power, Line, Neutral, and Load terminals.
- ET1705-120 VAC-SPST: Connect Line and Neutral to Timer Power. Connect Line to terminal 1 and Load to terminal 2. Install jumper between terminals 3 and 4 if load voltage and input voltage are the same.
- ET1715-SPDT (Load Switching): Similar to ET1705, but with additional load connections for switching.
- ET1725-240 VAC-DPST: Connect L1 and L2 to Timer Power. Connect L1 to terminal 1 and L2 to terminal 3. Connect Load to terminals 2 and 4. Configure jumper to "SIM" for simultaneous operation.
- ET1725-2x SPST: For two independent SPST loads. Connect L1/Neutral to Timer Power. Connect L1 to terminal 1 and L2/Neutral to terminal 3. Connect Load 1 to terminal 2 and Load 2 to terminal 4.
- ET1725-Pulse 2x SPST (Bell Ringing): For pulsed applications. Configure jumper to "PUL".
4. Setup & Programming
The ET1725C allows for flexible programming with up to 14 ON/OFF set points per circuit. The timer automatically adjusts for daylight saving time.

Figure 4.1: The Intermatic ET1725C timer with its front panel open, revealing the LCD display, programming buttons (MODE, DAY, RESET, ENTER NEXT, ON/OFF), and the battery compartment. An instruction sheet is partially visible, indicating the comprehensive nature of the product's documentation.
4.1 Initial Setup
- Power On: After installation and power connection, the display should illuminate.
- Set Current Time:
- Press the MODE button until "SET TIME" appears.
- Use the UP and DOWN arrows to adjust the hour and minute.
- Press ENTER NEXT to confirm.
- Set Current Day:
- Press the DAY button to cycle through the days of the week until the current day is displayed.
- Daylight Saving Time (DST): The timer automatically corrects for DST. Ensure the correct year is set if prompted during initial setup.
4.2 Programming ON/OFF Events
The timer allows for up to 14 ON/OFF set points per circuit. Each set point can be assigned to specific days of the week.
- Press the MODE button until "PROGRAM" appears.
- The display will show "ON 1". Use the UP and DOWN arrows to set the desired ON time for the first event.
- Press ENTER NEXT.
- The display will show "OFF 1". Use the UP and DOWN arrows to set the desired OFF time for the first event.
- Press ENTER NEXT.
- The display will show the days of the week. Use the DAY button to select the days for this program. You can select individual days, weekdays, weekends, or all days.
- Press ENTER NEXT to save the program.
- Repeat steps 2-7 for additional ON/OFF events (ON 2, OFF 2, etc.).
- To exit programming mode, press the MODE button until the current time is displayed.
4.3 Manual Override
The timer can be manually overridden using the ON/OFF buttons. Pressing these buttons will toggle the load's state (ON or OFF) without affecting the programmed schedule. The timer will revert to the schedule at the next programmed event.
5. Operation
Once programmed, the Intermatic ET1725C will operate automatically according to your set schedule. The LCD display shows the current time, day, and the status of Load 1 and Load 2 (ON/OFF).
- Automatic Operation: The timer will activate and deactivate connected loads based on the programmed ON/OFF events.
- Display Information: The display provides real-time information on the current time, day, and the operational status of the connected loads.
- Battery Backup: In case of a power outage, the internal battery backup maintains the time and programmed settings. The display may not be active during a power outage to conserve battery life.
6. Maintenance
6.1 Battery Replacement
The ET1725C uses a replaceable battery for backup power. If the display becomes dim or the timer loses settings during a power outage, the battery may need replacement.
- WARNING: Disconnect all power to the timer at the circuit breaker before opening the unit.
- Open the timer enclosure.
- Locate the battery compartment.
- Carefully remove the old battery and replace it with a new, equivalent battery (e.g., standard AAA non-rechargeable alkaline battery).
- Close the battery compartment and the timer enclosure.
- Restore power and verify the timer's functionality.
6.2 Cleaning
Clean the exterior of the timer with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents. Ensure no moisture enters the unit.
7. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Timer display is blank. | No power to the unit or dead backup battery. | Check circuit breaker. Ensure proper wiring. Replace backup battery. |
| Load does not turn ON/OFF at programmed times. | Incorrect programming, manual override active, or wiring issue. | Review programming steps. Check if manual override is active. Verify wiring connections. |
| Time or settings are lost after power outage. | Backup battery is weak or dead. | Replace the backup battery. |
| Display is difficult to read. | Poor lighting conditions or small LCD. | Ensure adequate lighting. This is a known characteristic of some LCDs. |
