1. Introduction
This manual provides instructions for the setup, operation, and maintenance of your Epson Perfection V600 Photo Scanner. The V600 is designed for high-resolution scanning of various media, including 35mm film, mounted slides, medium-format film, photos, and documents.
2. What's in the Box
Verify that all components are present before proceeding with setup.

3. Setup
3.1 Unpacking and Placement
Carefully remove the scanner from its packaging. Place the scanner on a stable, flat surface near your computer. Ensure adequate space for opening the scanner lid and connecting cables.

3.2 Software Installation
Before connecting the scanner to your computer, install the necessary software.
- Insert the Scanner Installation CD-ROM into your computer's optical drive.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to install the Epson Scan software and any bundled applications. If your computer does not have an optical drive, download the latest software and drivers from the official Epson support website.
- Ensure all software components are installed before proceeding.
3.3 Hardware Connection
Connect the scanner to your computer and power source.
- Connect one end of the supplied Hi-Speed USB 2.0 cable to the USB port on the scanner and the other end to an available USB port on your computer.
- Connect the AC power adapter to the scanner's power input and then plug the power cord into an electrical outlet.
- Press the power button on the scanner. The power indicator light should illuminate.
4. Operation
4.1 Basic Document and Photo Scanning
To scan standard documents or photos:
- Lift the scanner lid.
- Place the document or photo face-down on the scanner glass, aligning the top left corner with the arrow mark.
- Close the scanner lid gently.
- Launch the Epson Scan software on your computer.
- Select your desired scanning mode (e.g., Home Mode, Professional Mode) and adjust settings such as resolution, color depth, and destination.
- Click the Scan button in the software or press the Scan button on the scanner's control panel.

4.2 Film and Slide Scanning
The Transparency Unit (built into the lid) and included film holders allow for scanning of transparent media.
- Open the scanner lid and remove the document mat from the underside of the lid to expose the Transparency Unit light source.
- Select the appropriate film holder (35mm mounted slides, 35mm film strips, or medium format).
- Place your film or slides into the holder, ensuring they are correctly oriented. For slides, place the shiny side downwards.
- Place the film holder onto the scanner glass, aligning it with the guides.
- Close the scanner lid.
- In Epson Scan software, select Film as the Document Type and choose the correct Film Type (e.g., Positive Film for slides, Negative Film for negatives).
- Adjust scanning settings as needed, including resolution (up to 6400 x 9600 dpi optical resolution for film).
- Utilize Digital ICE Technology for automatic dust and scratch removal on film, and Color Restoration for faded images.
- Click Scan.

4.3 Scanner Control Panel Buttons
The scanner features four customizable buttons for quick access to common functions:
- Scan: Initiates a scan using the default or last-used settings.
- Copy: Scans an item and sends it directly to a connected printer.
- E-mail: Scans an item and attaches it to a new email message.
- PDF: Scans an item and saves it as a PDF file.
These buttons can be configured through the Epson Event Manager software, typically installed with the scanner drivers.

5. Maintenance
5.1 Cleaning the Scanner Glass
Dust or smudges on the scanner glass can affect scan quality.
- Turn off the scanner and unplug the AC adapter.
- Wipe the scanner glass with a soft, lint-free cloth moistened with a small amount of glass cleaner. Do not spray cleaner directly onto the glass.
- Wipe the Transparency Unit window (on the underside of the lid) similarly.
- Ensure the glass surfaces are completely dry before closing the lid or turning on the scanner.
5.2 Care for Film Holders
Keep film holders clean and free of dust to prevent artifacts on film scans. Use a soft, dry cloth or an air blower to remove dust. Avoid using liquids on film holders.
6. Troubleshooting
6.1 Common Issues and Solutions
- Scanner not recognized by computer:
- Ensure the USB cable is securely connected to both the scanner and the computer.
- Verify the scanner is powered on.
- Restart your computer and the scanner.
- Reinstall the scanner drivers from the Epson support website.
- Poor scan quality (dust, scratches):
- Clean the scanner glass and Transparency Unit window as described in Section 5.1.
- For film, ensure Digital ICE Technology is enabled in Epson Scan software.
- For prints, enable Digital ICE for Prints or Epson Easy Photo Fix in the software.
- Faded colors in scans:
- Enable Color Restoration in the Epson Scan software.
- Adjust color settings manually in Professional Mode.
- Scanner software crashes:
- Ensure your operating system is compatible with the scanner software. Check Epson's support website for system requirements.
- Try running the Epson Scan software as an administrator (right-click the icon and select "Run as administrator").
- Update your operating system and scanner drivers to the latest versions.
