Key Components:

  • Current Clamp Jaws: Used for non-contact measurement of AC/DC current.
  • Rotary Switch: Selects the desired measurement function (OFF, A~, A=, V~, V=, Ω, Hz/%).
  • LCD Display: Shows measurement readings, units, and function indicators.
  • Function Buttons:
    • MIN/MAX: Records minimum and maximum values during a measurement session.
    • RAN (Range): Toggles between auto-ranging and manual ranging modes.
    • Hz/%: In frequency/duty cycle mode, toggles between Hz and %.
    • BL/HOLD: Activates the display backlight (short press) or holds the current reading on the display (long press).
    • SEL (Select): Toggles between different functions within a single rotary switch position (e.g., Resistance, Diode, Continuity).
  • Input Terminals (COM, INPUT): For connecting test leads for voltage, resistance, continuity, and diode measurements.

4. Setup

Battery Installation:

The Testboy TV 216N requires 3 AAA batteries for operation. Batteries are included with the device.

  1. Locate the battery compartment cover on the rear of the device.
  2. Use a screwdriver to loosen the screw securing the battery cover.
  3. Remove the battery cover.
  4. Insert 3 AAA batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+ and -) as indicated inside the compartment.
  5. Replace the battery cover and tighten the screw securely.

Note: If the low battery indicator appears on the display, replace the batteries immediately to ensure accurate measurements.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Powering On/Off

To power on the device, rotate the rotary switch from the 'OFF' position to any desired measurement function. To power off, rotate the switch back to 'OFF'.

5.2 Measuring AC/DC Current (A~ / A=)

Use the clamp jaws for non-contact current measurement.

  1. Rotate the rotary switch to the 'A~' position for AC current or 'A=' for DC current.
  2. Press the jaw trigger to open the clamp jaws.
  3. Enclose only one conductor of the circuit with the clamp jaws. Ensure the jaws are fully closed around the conductor.
  4. Read the current value on the LCD display.

5.3 Measuring AC/DC Voltage (V~ / V=)

Use test leads for voltage measurements.

  1. Insert the black test lead into the 'COM' terminal and the red test lead into the 'INPUT' terminal.
  2. Rotate the rotary switch to the 'V~' position for AC voltage or 'V=' for DC voltage.
  3. Connect the test leads in parallel to the circuit or component you wish to measure.
  4. Read the voltage value on the LCD display.

5.4 Measuring Resistance, Continuity, and Diode (Ω)

Use test leads for these measurements.

  1. Insert the black test lead into the 'COM' terminal and the red test lead into the 'INPUT' terminal.
  2. Rotate the rotary switch to the 'Ω' position.
  3. Use the 'SEL' button to cycle through Resistance (Ω), Continuity (buzzer symbol), and Diode (diode symbol) functions.
  4. For Resistance: Connect the test leads across the component. Read the resistance value.
  5. For Continuity: Connect the test leads across the circuit. A continuous beep indicates continuity (low resistance).
  6. For Diode: Connect the red lead to the anode and the black lead to the cathode. The display will show the forward voltage drop. Reverse the leads; the display should show 'OL' (open loop) for a good diode.

5.5 Measuring Frequency/Duty Cycle (Hz/%)

Use test leads for these measurements.

  1. Insert the black test lead into the 'COM' terminal and the red test lead into the 'INPUT' terminal.
  2. Rotate the rotary switch to the 'Hz/%' position.
  3. Connect the test leads to the signal source.
  4. Use the 'Hz/%' button to toggle between frequency (Hz) and duty cycle (%).
  5. Read the value on the LCD display.

5.6 Using Function Buttons

  • MIN/MAX: Press once to activate. The meter will record and display the minimum and maximum readings. Press again to cycle between MIN, MAX, and current reading. Long press to exit.
  • RAN (Range): Press to switch from auto-ranging to manual ranging. Each subsequent press will cycle through available manual ranges. Long press to return to auto-ranging.
  • BL/HOLD: Short press to turn the display backlight on/off. Long press to activate/deactivate data hold, freezing the current reading on the display.

6. Maintenance

6.1 Cleaning

Wipe the device with a damp cloth and a mild detergent. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents. Ensure the device is completely dry before storage or next use.

6.2 Battery Replacement

Refer to Section 4. Setup for detailed battery replacement instructions. Always use 3 new AAA batteries of the same type.

6.3 Storage

If the device is not used for an extended period, remove the batteries to prevent leakage. Store the device in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.

7. Troubleshooting

  • No Display: Check battery installation and ensure batteries are not depleted. Replace if necessary.
  • Incorrect Readings: Ensure the correct function is selected on the rotary switch. Verify test lead connections. Check for proper clamping around a single conductor for current measurements.
  • 'OL' on Display: Indicates an open circuit or a measurement exceeding the selected range. For resistance, it means infinite resistance. For diode, it means reverse bias or open.
  • Slow Response: Low battery power can affect performance. Replace batteries.

If issues persist after troubleshooting, contact Testboy customer support or a qualified service technician.
