Important Safety Information
Before using any product for health care, it is advised to consult your physician or primary healthcare provider and seek appropriate advice and supervision prior to use.
- Electrical Safety: Ensure the power cord is properly connected to a grounded outlet. Do not operate the unit if the power cord is damaged. Keep the control unit away from water or excessive moisture.
- Patient Weight Capacity: Do not exceed the maximum weight capacity of 450 lbs.
- CPR Valve: Familiarize yourself with the CPR valve for rapid deflation in emergency situations.
- Positioning: Ensure the mattress is correctly positioned on the bed frame to prevent shifting.
- Flammable Materials: Keep the system away from open flames or sources of ignition.
Components Overview
The Med-Aire Low Air Loss Mattress Replacement System consists of the following main components:
- Mattress: An 8-inch deep mattress with 20 individually replaceable air bladders, designed for alternating pressure and low air loss therapy. It includes a pillow function for head stability and comfort, and cell-on-cell technology for power outage protection.
- Control Unit (Pump): A digital control unit with an 8 LPM (liters per minute) airflow, offering 4 cycle time options (10, 15, 20, 25 minutes) and adjustable comfort settings. It features diagnostic alarms and an auto-return function.
- Cover: A removable 4-way stretch PU cover that is fluid-resistant, low shear, and vapor permeable, designed to protect the skin from friction and moisture.
- Air Hoses: Tubing with EZ Lock / Quick Release design for easy connection and disconnection between the mattress and control unit.

Setup Instructions
Follow these steps to properly set up your Med-Aire Mattress Replacement System:
- Prepare Bed Frame: Ensure the bed frame is clean and free of any sharp objects that could damage the mattress.
- Place Mattress: Lay the Med-Aire mattress directly onto the bed frame. Ensure the head and foot ends are correctly oriented.
- Connect Air Hoses: Connect the air hoses from the mattress to the air outlets on the control unit. Ensure the EZ Lock / Quick Release connectors are securely fastened.
- Mount Control Unit: Hang the control unit securely at the foot end of the bed frame using the integrated hooks. Ensure it is stable and not prone to falling.
- Connect Power: Plug the control unit's power cord into a grounded electrical outlet.
- Initial Inflation: Turn on the control unit. The mattress will begin to inflate. Allow approximately 20-30 minutes for the mattress to fully inflate before placing a patient on it.
Operating Instructions
Control Unit Functions
- Power Button: Turns the system on or off.
- Pressure Range (+/-): Adjusts the firmness level of the mattress. Increase for firmer support, decrease for softer support.
- Cycle Time (10, 15, 20, 25 min): Selects the duration for each alternating pressure cycle.
- Static/Alternating Mode: Toggles between continuous static pressure and dynamic alternating pressure.
- Seat Function: Inflates specific cells to provide additional support when the patient is in a seated position.
- AutoFirm: Rapidly inflates the mattress to maximum firmness for patient transfer or care procedures.
- Lock: Locks the control panel settings to prevent accidental changes.
- Mute: Silences audible alarms.
Operating Modes
- Alternating Pressure Mode: This is the primary mode for pressure ulcer prevention and treatment. Air cells inflate and deflate in a cyclical pattern to redistribute pressure.
- Static Pressure Mode: Provides a constant, even pressure across the entire mattress surface. This mode may be used for patient comfort or during specific care procedures.
Adjusting Comfort Settings
Adjust the pressure range based on the patient's weight and comfort needs. Start with a moderate setting and observe the patient's comfort and skin integrity. The digital control unit provides feedback to help optimize pressure redistribution.
Maintenance and Care
Cleaning
- Mattress Cover: The removable cover can be wiped down with a mild disinfectant solution. Ensure the cover is completely dry before re-installing.
- Mattress Cells: If necessary, the mattress cells can be cleaned with a damp cloth and mild soap. Avoid harsh chemicals.
- Control Unit: Wipe the exterior of the control unit with a damp cloth. Do not immerse the unit in water.
Storage
When not in use, ensure the mattress is deflated, cleaned, and stored in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and sharp objects. The control unit should also be stored in a dry environment.
Component Replacement
Individual air bladders within the mattress are replaceable. Contact customer support for replacement parts and instructions.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
