1. Introduction

The Aastra 6731i is an enterprise-grade 6-line IP telephone, part of the carrier-grade, open-standards based 67xi SIP portfolio. It is designed to offer exceptional features and flexibility for various communication needs.

2. Setup

2.1 Package Contents

Verify that your package contains the following items:

  • Aastra 6731i IP Phone Base Unit
  • Handset
  • Handset Coiled Cord
  • Ethernet Cable
  • AC Power Adapter

2.2 Connecting the Phone

2.2.1 Connecting the Handset

Connect one end of the coiled cord to the handset and the other end to the handset port on the phone base unit. Ensure a secure connection.

2.2.2 Connecting to Network and Power

  1. Connect one end of the Ethernet cable to the LAN port on the phone and the other end to your network switch or router.
  2. Connect the AC power adapter to the power port on the phone and then plug the adapter into a standard electrical outlet.
  3. The phone will power on and begin its boot sequence.

2.2.3 Wall Mounting (Optional)

The Aastra 6731i can be wall-mounted using the integrated wall-mount bracket. Securely attach the bracket to a wall stud or use appropriate wall anchors. Then, slide the phone onto the bracket until it clicks into place.

3. Operating the Phone

3.1 Basic Functions

  • Making a Call: Lift the handset or press the Speakerphone button. Dial the desired number and press the Dial or Send soft key, or wait for automatic dialing.
  • Answering a Call: Lift the handset or press the Speakerphone button when the phone rings.
  • Ending a Call: Replace the handset or press the Speakerphone button again.
  • Adjusting Volume: Use the volume control buttons (up/down arrows) located below the keypad to adjust handset, headset, or speakerphone volume during a call.
  • Mute Function: Press the Mute button (microphone icon) to mute your microphone during a call. Press again to unmute.
  • Speakerphone: Press the Speakerphone button to toggle speakerphone mode on or off.

3.2 Advanced Features

  • Hold: During an active call, press the Hold soft key or dedicated button to place the call on hold. Press again to resume.
  • Transfer: During an active call, press the Transfer soft key or button. Dial the number to transfer to, then press Transfer again to complete (blind transfer) or wait for the party to answer before pressing Transfer (consulted transfer).
  • Conference: During an active call, press the Conference soft key or button. Dial the number of the third party, and once connected, press Conference again to join all parties.
  • Voicemail: Press the Voicemail button (envelope icon) to access your voicemail messages. Follow the voice prompts.
  • Directory/Contacts: Press the Directory or Contacts button to access your phone's contact list. Use navigation keys to scroll and select.
  • Call History: Press the Call History button to view a list of missed, received, and dialed calls.

3.3 Using the Display and Navigation Keys

The monochrome display provides call information, menu options, and status indicators. Use the four-way navigation cluster (up, down, left, right arrows) and the Select button in the center to navigate through menus and select options.

3.4 Programmable Keys (L1, L2, etc.)

The Aastra 6731i features several programmable keys (e.g., L1, L2) that can be configured for various functions such as line appearances, speed dials, or feature access codes. The specific function of these keys is typically configured by your system administrator.
