Introduction

The Finnex HC-810M Digital Heater Controller is designed to provide precise temperature control for your aquarium, ensuring a stable environment for your aquatic livestock. This controller features a digital LED display for easy monitoring and adjustable high/low temperature settings with an audio alert for enhanced safety. Its dual-relay inter-work system offers double protection against overheating, automatically disabling heating if temperatures exceed safe limits. The controller is compatible with various heating elements up to 800 Watts, including Finnex Titanium Tubes, and retains preset settings even after power interruptions.

Safety Information

  • This device is intended for indoor aquarium use only.
  • Ensure the controller and all connected heating elements are unplugged before performing any maintenance or handling.
  • Do not immerse the controller unit in water. The temperature probe is submersible, but the main unit is not.
  • Ensure the total wattage of all connected heating elements does not exceed 800 Watts.
  • Keep the controller away from direct sunlight, excessive heat, or moisture.
  • Always use a drip loop for all power cords to prevent water from traveling along the cord and reaching the electrical outlet.

Setup

  1. Placement: Position the Finnex HC-810M controller in a dry, well-ventilated area, away from direct water splashes.
  2. Connect Heater: Plug your aquarium heating element(s) into the three-prong power receptacle(s) on the controller. Ensure the total wattage does not exceed 800 Watts. Note: Heating elements are sold separately.
  3. Position Temperature Probe: Carefully place the temperature probe into your aquarium. For accurate readings, position the probe away from direct water flow from the heater and in an area that reflects the average tank temperature. Use the included suction cup to secure the probe to the aquarium glass.
  4. Power On: Plug the controller's power cord into a standard 120V electrical outlet. The LED display will illuminate, showing the current water temperature.

Operating Instructions

  1. Reading Temperature: The large LED display shows the current water temperature.
  2. Setting Desired Temperature:
    • Press the ON/OFF/SET button once. The display will flash the current set temperature.
    • Use the + and - buttons to adjust the desired temperature.
    • Press ON/OFF/SET again to confirm and save the setting. The display will return to showing the current water temperature.
  3. Setting High/Low Temperature Alerts: The controller features an audio alert for temperature deviations.
    • Press and hold the ALERT - LO button to set the lower temperature alert limit. Use + and - to adjust. Release the button to save.
    • Press and hold the ALERT - HI button to set the upper temperature alert limit. Use + and - to adjust. Release the button to save.
    • If the water temperature goes outside these set limits, an audible alarm will sound.
  4. Switching Between Celsius and Fahrenheit: Press the °C/°F button to toggle between Celsius and Fahrenheit temperature units.
  5. Overheat Protection: The dual-relay system automatically cuts power to the heater if the temperature exceeds a safe threshold, providing an additional layer of protection for your aquarium.

Maintenance

  • Regular Cleaning: Periodically wipe the controller unit with a dry, soft cloth to remove dust.
  • Probe Cleaning: Gently clean the temperature probe regularly to prevent algae or mineral buildup, which can affect accuracy. Use a soft brush or cloth and aquarium water. Do not use harsh chemicals.
  • Cable Inspection: Regularly inspect all cables and connections for any signs of wear, fraying, or damage. Replace if necessary.
  • Power Cycle: If the unit behaves erratically, try unplugging it from the power outlet for a few minutes, then plug it back in. This can often resolve minor issues.
