Setup and Installation
1. Battery Installation
- Open the hinged cover of the smoke alarm.
- Connect the 9-Volt battery to the battery connector. Ensure correct polarity.
- Insert the battery into its compartment. The cover is designed to resist closing if the battery is missing or incorrectly installed.
- Close the hinged cover.
2. Mounting the Smoke Alarm
The FG250B can be mounted on a wall or ceiling. Refer to local building codes and NFPA 72 for optimal placement. Avoid mounting near vents, windows, or areas with high humidity.
- Choose a suitable location, typically in hallways, near sleeping areas, and on every level of the home.
- Use the provided mounting anchors and screws to securely attach the alarm to the wall or ceiling.
- Ensure the alarm is firmly attached and does not wobble.

Operating Instructions
Normal Operation
Once the battery is installed and the unit is mounted, the smoke alarm is operational. A red LED light will flash periodically (approximately once every 30-60 seconds) to indicate that the unit is receiving power and functioning correctly.
Testing the Alarm
Test your smoke alarm weekly to ensure it is working properly.
- Press and hold the "TEST/SILENCE" button located on the center of the alarm.
- The alarm will sound a loud, pulsating horn.
- Release the button. The alarm sound should stop immediately.
- If the alarm does not sound, refer to the Troubleshooting section.
Silence Feature
The silence feature can temporarily quiet nuisance alarms (e.g., from cooking smoke).
- If a nuisance alarm sounds, press the "TEST/SILENCE" button.
- The alarm will silence for approximately several minutes.
- The red LED will continue to flash rapidly during the silence period.
- If the smoke condition persists, the alarm will reactivate after the silence period ends.
Maintenance
Battery Replacement
The smoke alarm will "chirp" approximately once per minute when the 9-Volt battery needs to be replaced. This low battery warning will continue for up to 7 days.
- Open the hinged cover of the smoke alarm.
- Disconnect the old 9-Volt battery from its connector and remove it.
- Connect a new 9-Volt alkaline battery to the connector, ensuring correct polarity.
- Insert the new battery into the compartment and close the cover.
- Test the alarm after replacing the battery (refer to "Testing the Alarm" section).
Cleaning Your Smoke Alarm
Clean your smoke alarm at least once a year to remove dust and debris. Use a soft brush attachment on your vacuum cleaner to gently vacuum the exterior of the alarm, especially around the sensing chamber openings. Do not use cleaning solvents or spray directly onto the alarm.
