Installation Instructions
- Turn Off Power: Locate the circuit breaker or fuse that supplies power to the switch location. Turn it OFF. Verify power is off using a voltage tester.
- Remove Old Switch: Carefully remove the existing wall plate and switch from the electrical box. Disconnect the wires from the old switch.
- Identify Wires:
- Hot Wire (Line): Typically black, brings power from the circuit breaker.
- Load Wire: Typically black, sends power to the light fixture or appliance.
- Neutral Wire: Typically white, required for the LED guide light.
- Ground Wire: Typically bare copper or green.
If you are unsure about wire identification, consult a qualified electrician.
- Wire the New Switch:
- Connect the Hot (Line) wire to one of the brass screws on the switch.
- Connect the Load wire to the other brass screw on the switch.
- Connect the Neutral wire to the silver screw on the switch.
- Connect the Ground wire to the green screw on the switch.
Ensure all wire connections are secure. For screw terminals, wrap the wire clockwise around the screw and tighten.
- Mount the Switch: Carefully push the wired switch into the electrical box. Secure it with the mounting screws provided.
- Install Wall Plate: Attach the Decora wall plate over the switch.
- Restore Power: Turn the power back ON at the circuit breaker.

Operation
The Leviton 6526-W features a standard rocker switch for controlling your connected load (e.g., light fixture, fan) and an integrated LED guide light.
Switch Function
Press the top or bottom of the rocker switch to turn the connected load ON or OFF.
LED Guide Light Function
The LED guide light automatically turns ON when ambient light levels are low and turns OFF when sufficient light is detected. This provides a soft, ambient light for navigation in dark areas. The guide light operates independently of the main switch function.
Maintenance
This device requires minimal maintenance.
- Periodically clean the surface with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Ensure the wall plate is securely fastened.
- The LED guide light is designed for long life and does not require bulb replacement.
Troubleshooting
- Problem: The LED guide light does not turn on.
- Solution:
- Verify that the neutral wire is correctly connected to the silver terminal screw on the switch. A neutral connection is essential for the LED guide light to function.
- Ensure power is supplied to the switch. Check the circuit breaker.
- Confirm that the ambient light sensor is not obstructed and that the room is sufficiently dark for the LED to activate.
- Problem: The switch does not control the connected load.
- Solution:
- Ensure the hot (line) and load wires are correctly connected to the brass terminal screws. If the LED works but the switch doesn't, try swapping the two black wires connected to the brass screws.
- Check the circuit breaker to ensure power is on.
- Verify that the connected load (e.g., light bulb) is functional.
- Problem: The switch feels loose in the wall box.
- Solution:
- Tighten the mounting screws that secure the switch to the electrical box.
