4. Setup

4.1 Initial Inspection

Before first use, inspect the heat gun and all accessories for any signs of damage. Ensure the power cord is intact and free from cuts or abrasions. Do not use the tool if any damage is observed.

4.2 Power Connection

Connect the heat gun to a standard 120 VAC / 60 Hz power outlet. Ensure the outlet is properly grounded and capable of supplying 12.5 amps (1500 watts).

4.3 Attaching Nozzles

Select the appropriate nozzle for your application. Align the nozzle with the heat gun's outlet and push it firmly into place. Ensure it is securely attached before operation. Allow the heat gun to cool before changing nozzles.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Powering On and Off

The heat gun features a 3-stage switch located on the handle:

  1. Position 0: Off
  2. Position 1 (Cool Air): 120°F (49°C) at 3.6 CFM airflow. This setting is ideal for cooling down materials or the tool itself.
  3. Position 2 (Variable Temperature/Airflow): Provides variable temperature control from 120°F to 1,100°F (49°C to 594°C) at 10.6 CFM airflow.
  4. Position 3 (Variable Temperature/Airflow): Provides variable temperature control from 120°F to 1,100°F (49°C to 594°C) at 17.6 CFM airflow.

To turn on, slide the switch to the desired setting. To turn off, slide the switch back to Position 0. It is recommended to use the cool air setting (Position 1) for a few minutes before turning off the tool completely to extend the life of the heating element.

5.2 Temperature and Airflow Control

The HL 1910 E allows continuous temperature variation when operating in Position 2 or 3. Use the adjustment dial (if present, typically at the rear of the tool) to fine-tune the temperature for your specific application. Higher airflow settings (Position 3) are suitable for larger areas or faster heating, while lower airflow (Position 2) offers more precise control.

5.3 Applications

The Steinel HL 1910 E is suitable for a wide range of applications, including:

  • Applying shrink tubing
  • Activating adhesives
  • Welding and shaping plastics
  • Removing paint and varnish
  • Thawing frozen pipes
  • Drying and curing materials

6. Maintenance

6.1 Cleaning

Regularly clean the air intake filters to ensure optimal airflow and prevent overheating. Disconnect the tool from the power supply before cleaning. Use a soft brush or compressed air to remove dust and debris from the filters and the nozzle. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.

6.2 Storage

Store the heat gun and its accessories in the provided carrying case in a dry, secure location, out of reach of children. Ensure the tool is completely cool before storing. Do not wrap the power cord tightly around the tool.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your Steinel HL 1910 E Heat Gun, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

  • No Power:
Possible Cause: Power cord not plugged in, faulty outlet, or tripped circuit breaker.
Solution: Check power connection, try a different outlet, reset circuit breaker.
  • No Heat / Low Heat:
Possible Cause: Heating element issue, incorrect temperature setting, or blocked air intake.
Solution: Ensure the switch is not on the cool air setting (Position 1). Check air filters for blockages. If the issue persists, contact customer support.
  • Low Airflow:
Possible Cause: Blocked air intake filters.
Solution: Clean the air intake filters as described in the Maintenance section.
  • Overheating / Automatic Shut-off:
Possible Cause: Prolonged use, blocked air intake, or internal fault.
Solution: Allow the tool to cool down. Clean air filters. If the problem recurs frequently, contact customer support.
