1. Safety Instructions

Read all safety warnings and instructions carefully before operating this drill press. Failure to follow the warnings and instructions may result in electric shock, fire, and/or serious injury.

1.1 General Power Tool Safety

  • Work Area Safety: Keep the work area clean and well-lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents. Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases, or dust.
  • Electrical Safety: Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any way. Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions. Water entering a power tool will increase the risk of electric shock.
  • Personal Safety: Always wear eye protection. Use personal protective equipment such as dust masks, non-skid safety shoes, hard hats, or hearing protection when appropriate. Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry. Keep your hair, clothing, and gloves away from moving parts.

1.2 Specific Drill Press Safety

  • Secure the workpiece: Always clamp the workpiece firmly to the drill press table. Never hold it by hand.
  • Use the correct speed: Select the appropriate speed for the material and drill bit size.
  • Do not force the tool: Allow the drill press to work at its own pace.
  • Clear chips: Use a brush or hook to remove chips, never your hands.
  • Disconnect power: Always disconnect the power supply before making adjustments, changing accessories, or performing maintenance.

4. Operating Instructions

Follow these instructions for safe and effective operation of your POWERPLUS POWX152 Drill Press.

4.1 Selecting Drill Bits and Speeds

  • Choose a drill bit appropriate for the material and desired hole size. The chuck accommodates bits from 1.5mm to 13mm.
  • The drill press offers 5 adjustable speeds (580-2650 RPM). Refer to the table below for recommended speed settings.

4.2 Drilling Procedure

  1. Secure Workpiece: Place the workpiece on the table and clamp it firmly. Use a scrap piece of wood underneath to prevent drilling into the table.
  2. Adjust Table Height: Loosen the table lock and adjust the table height so the drill bit can pass through the workpiece without hitting the base. Re-tighten the table lock.
  3. Set Depth Stop: Lower the chuck until the drill bit touches the workpiece. Adjust the depth stop to the desired drilling depth (0-50mm travel).
  4. Activate Laser: Turn on the integrated laser to align the drill bit with your marked drilling point.
  5. Start Drilling: Turn on the drill press. Slowly lower the drill bit into the workpiece using the feed handle. Apply steady, even pressure.
  6. Clear Chips: Periodically raise the drill bit to clear chips, especially when drilling deep holes.
  7. Finish: Once the desired depth is reached, raise the drill bit completely and turn off the machine.

5. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your drill press. Always disconnect the power supply before performing any maintenance.

5.1 Cleaning

  • After each use, clean the drill press to remove dust, chips, and debris. Use a brush or vacuum cleaner.
  • Wipe down all metal surfaces with a clean, dry cloth.
  • Do not use solvents or abrasive cleaners that could damage painted surfaces or plastic components.

5.2 Lubrication

  • Periodically apply a light coat of machine oil to the column and other moving parts to ensure smooth operation and prevent rust.
  • Lubricate the spindle bearings if necessary, following specific instructions in the full service manual (if applicable).

5.3 Chuck Care

  • Keep the chuck jaws clean and free of debris to ensure a secure grip on drill bits.
  • If the chuck becomes stiff, apply a small amount of light oil to the jaws and rotate them to distribute the lubricant.
