1. Introduction

Welcome to the Canon PowerShot SX120IS Digital Camera. This manual provides essential information for setting up, operating, and maintaining your camera to capture high-quality images and videos.

2. Setup

2.1. Inserting Batteries

The PowerShot SX120IS operates on AA-size alkaline batteries. Ensure correct polarity when inserting them.

  1. Open the battery compartment cover located on the bottom of the camera.
  2. Insert two AA-size batteries, matching the + and - terminals as indicated inside the compartment.
  3. Close the battery compartment cover securely.

2.2. Inserting/Removing SD Memory Card

The camera uses SD/SDHC memory cards (not included) for storing images and videos.

  1. Open the battery/card compartment cover.
  2. Insert the SD card with the gold contacts facing the back of the camera until it clicks into place.
  3. To remove, gently push the card inward until it clicks, then release. The card will partially eject.
  4. Close the cover securely.

3. Basic Operation

3.1. Power On/Off

Press the ON/OFF button located on the top of the camera to power it on or off.

3.2. Taking Photos (Smart AUTO Mode)

The Smart AUTO feature simplifies photography by automatically selecting optimal settings.

  1. Set the mode dial to Smart AUTO (green camera icon).
  2. Frame your subject on the 3.0-inch LCD screen.
  3. Press the shutter button halfway down to focus. The camera will detect faces and adjust settings.
  4. Press the shutter button fully down to capture the image.

3.3. Zoom Operation

Use the zoom lever around the shutter button to adjust the 10x optical zoom.

3.4. Easy Mode

For ultimate simplicity, select Easy Mode on the mode dial. This mode automatically sets all camera controls, including flash, to reduce blur and improve image quality, allowing you to focus solely on your subject.

4.1. DIGIC 4 Image Processor

The DIGIC 4 Image Processor enhances image quality, camera efficiency, and battery life. It powers advanced features like Face Detection, Motion Detection, and Red-eye Correction.

4.2. Optical Image Stabilizer

Canon's Optical Image Stabilizer Technology automatically detects and corrects camera shake, a common cause of blurred photos, ensuring steady and crisp images even at maximum zoom.

4.3. Face Detection Technology

This technology optimizes focus, exposure, and white balance for faces in your shots. Press the shutter button halfway, and the camera will automatically pinpoint and adjust for faces.
