3. Setup

3.1 Initial Inspection

Upon unboxing, carefully inspect the guitar for any visible damage that may have occurred during shipping. Check the finish, hardware, and neck for any irregularities.

3.2 Tuning

The guitar is equipped with standard tuning machines. Use a reliable electronic tuner to tune the guitar to standard EADGBe (low to high). Turn the tuning pegs slowly to avoid over-tightening the strings.

3.3 String Installation (Optional)

If replacing strings, ensure you use nickel strings of appropriate gauge (e.g., .009-.042 or .010-.046). Thread the string through the stoptail bridge, pull it taut through the tuning post, and wind it neatly. Stretch new strings gently to help them settle and hold tune.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Connecting to an Amplifier

Insert a standard 1/4-inch instrument cable into the output jack located on the side of the guitar body. Connect the other end of the cable to the input of your guitar amplifier or audio interface.

4.2 Volume Control

The PRS SE One features a single volume knob. Rotate the knob clockwise to increase the output volume and counter-clockwise to decrease it. This control allows for dynamic adjustments during play.

4.3 Tone Shaping

While there is no dedicated tone knob, the guitar's single pickup and mahogany construction provide a rich, full-bodied tone. Experiment with your amplifier's tone controls and external effects pedals to achieve desired sounds.

5. Maintenance

5.1 Cleaning

Regularly wipe down the guitar body, neck, and strings with a soft, lint-free cloth after each use to remove sweat and grime. For the finish, use a guitar-specific polish sparingly. Avoid abrasive cleaners.

5.2 Fretboard Care

The rosewood fretboard should be conditioned periodically (e.g., every 3-6 months) with a fretboard conditioner to prevent drying and cracking. Apply a small amount to a cloth and wipe onto the fretboard, then wipe off any excess.

5.3 String Replacement

Replace strings regularly, typically every 1-3 months depending on usage, to maintain optimal tone and playability. Refer to section 3.3 for string installation guidance.

5.4 Storage

Store the guitar in a stable environment, away from extreme temperature fluctuations and humidity. A guitar case or gig bag is recommended for protection.

6. Troubleshooting

  • No Sound:
    • Check if the instrument cable is securely connected to both the guitar and the amplifier.
    • Ensure the amplifier is turned on and its volume is not at zero.
    • Verify the guitar's volume knob is turned up.
    • Test with a different cable or amplifier to rule out equipment issues.
  • Buzzing/Fretting Out:
    • Check string action (height) at the bridge and nut.
    • Ensure the neck relief is correct. This may require professional adjustment.
    • Verify frets are level.
  • Poor Tuning Stability:
    • Ensure strings are properly stretched and wound on tuning posts.
    • Check for worn or damaged strings and replace if necessary.
    • Lubricate the nut slots with graphite or a specialized lubricant.
