  1. Prepare the Cord: Carefully strip the outer jacket of your power cord to expose approximately 1.5 to 2 inches of the insulated wires (typically black, white, and green/bare copper). Then, strip about 1/2 inch of insulation from the ends of the black (hot), white (neutral), and green/bare copper (ground) wires.
  2. Disassemble the Plug: Unscrew the assembly screws on the plug body to separate the front and back sections. Slide the back cover and cord clamp components onto the power cord in the correct orientation.
  3. Connect the Wires: The Leviton 8215-PLC features internal wiring chambers designed to isolate individual conductors. Connect the wires to the appropriate terminals:
    • Green/Bare Copper Wire: Connect to the green (grounding) screw terminal.
    • White Wire: Connect to the silver (neutral) screw terminal.
    • Black Wire: Connect to the brass (hot) screw terminal.
    Ensure all wire strands are securely under the screw heads and tightened firmly. Trim any excess wire strands to prevent short circuits.
  4. Secure the Cord Clamp: Position the cord clamp around the power cord and tighten the screws to provide a secure grip without damaging the cord's outer jacket. This prevents strain on the wire connections.
  5. Reassemble the Plug: Carefully align the front and back sections of the plug, ensuring no wires are pinched. Securely fasten the assembly screws.

Operating Instructions

Once properly wired, the Leviton 8215-PLC plug is ready for use.

  3. Disconnecting: To disconnect, grasp the plug body firmly and pull it straight out from the receptacle. Do not pull by the cord.
