Introduction
This manual provides detailed instructions for the installation, operation, and maintenance of the Altronix NetWay PoE Injector Hub, model NETWAY16. This device is designed to provide Power over Ethernet (PoE) to compatible network devices, simplifying power and data infrastructure.
Safety Information
- Read all instructions before operating the device.
- Do not expose the unit to rain or moisture.
- Ensure proper grounding to prevent electrical shock.
- Only use attachments/accessories specified by the manufacturer.
- Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel.
- Disconnect power before cleaning or servicing.
Setup
1. Unpacking
Carefully remove the NetWay16 unit from its packaging. Verify that all components are present and undamaged. Retain the packaging for future transport or storage.
2. Mounting
The Altronix NetWay16 is designed for rack mounting. It occupies 1U of rack space. Secure the unit to a standard 19-inch equipment rack using appropriate rack screws (not included).

3. Connections
- Network Input: Connect your network switch or router to the designated RJ45 input port on the NetWay16.
- PoE Output: Connect your PoE-enabled devices (e.g., IP cameras, VoIP phones, wireless access points) to the 16 RJ45 output ports. Each port provides up to 15.4W of power, compliant with IEEE 802.3af.
- Power Connection: Connect the appropriate power supply (not included, refer to product specifications for requirements) to the power input terminal. Ensure the power source matches the unit's voltage requirements.
4. Initial Power-Up
Once all connections are secure, apply power to the unit. Observe the indicator lights on the front panel. A steady green light typically indicates proper power and PoE status for each port. Refer to the "Operating" section for indicator light interpretation.
Operating
The Altronix NetWay16 operates automatically once powered on and connected. It provides Power over Ethernet to connected devices without requiring manual configuration for basic operation.
PoE Functionality
Each of the 16 ports on the NetWay16 is compliant with IEEE 802.3af, delivering up to 15.4 watts of power. The unit automatically detects PoE-compatible devices and supplies power accordingly. Non-PoE devices connected to the output ports will still receive data connectivity but will not be powered by the unit.
Indicator Lights
The front panel features indicator lights for each port. These lights provide visual feedback on the status of the PoE connection:
- Green LED: Indicates that PoE power is being supplied to the connected device.
- Amber/Red LED (if present): May indicate a fault condition, overcurrent, or a non-PoE device connected. Consult the specific product label for detailed LED behavior.
Remote Control
The NetWay16 supports remote control functionality, as indicated in its specifications. For detailed instructions on configuring and utilizing remote control features, refer to the comprehensive technical documentation available on the Altronix website or contact Altronix technical support.
Maintenance
Cleaning
To clean the unit, disconnect power and use a soft, dry cloth. Do not use liquid or aerosol cleaners, as they may damage the unit. Ensure ventilation openings remain clear of dust and debris.
Environmental Considerations
The NetWay16 has an International Protection Rating of IP54, meaning it is protected from limited dust ingress and from water spray from any direction. While robust, avoid exposing the unit to extreme temperatures, direct sunlight, or excessive moisture to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
Firmware Updates
Periodically check the Altronix website for available firmware updates. Firmware updates can improve performance, add new features, or address security vulnerabilities. Follow the instructions provided with the firmware update package carefully.
Troubleshooting
No Power to Unit
- Verify that the power supply is correctly connected and functioning.
- Check the power outlet for functionality.
- Ensure the power cable is not damaged.
No PoE to Connected Device
- Confirm the connected device is PoE-compatible (IEEE 802.3af).
- Check the Ethernet cable for damage or improper connection.
- Ensure the device is within the 15.4W power budget per port.
- Observe the port indicator lights for any fault indications.
Network Connectivity Issues
- Verify the connection from the network switch/router to the NetWay16 input port.
- Test the network cables for continuity.
- Ensure the connected devices are properly configured for network access.
