Model: SMA-2000 (10451088)

Brand: Omnitronic

1. Introduction

Thank you for choosing the OMNITRONIC SMA-2000 Stereo Power Amplifier. This manual provides essential information for the safe and efficient operation of your device. Please read it thoroughly before use and keep it for future reference.

The SMA-2000 is a high-performance stereo power amplifier designed for professional audio applications, offering robust power output, reliable protection features, and versatile connectivity.

2. Safety Instructions

  • Always connect the amplifier to a grounded power outlet.
  • Do not expose the unit to rain or moisture to prevent fire or electric shock.
  • Ensure proper ventilation. Do not block ventilation openings.
  • Do not open the amplifier casing. There are no user-serviceable parts inside. Refer all servicing to qualified personnel.
  • Disconnect the power cord before cleaning or when not in use for extended periods.
  • Avoid placing the unit near heat sources or in direct sunlight.
  • Use only specified voltage (230 V AC, 50 Hz).

3. Setup

3.1 Unpacking and Inspection

Carefully unpack the amplifier and inspect it for any signs of damage during transit. If damage is found, do not operate the unit and contact your dealer immediately.

3.2 Placement

Place the amplifier on a stable, flat surface or mount it in a standard 19-inch equipment rack. Ensure adequate space around the unit for proper airflow and cooling. Avoid placing it directly on carpet or other soft surfaces that could block ventilation.

Figure 3.3.1: Rear panel of the SMA-2000 amplifier, highlighting the various input and output connectors including XLR, RCA, and speaker terminals. This view is crucial for understanding how to properly connect audio sources and speakers.

  • Audio Inputs: Connect your audio source (mixer, preamplifier) to the CH1 INPUT and CH2 INPUT using XLR or RCA cables.
  • Speaker Outputs: Connect your speakers to the SPEAKER OUTPUT terminals. Ensure correct polarity (+ to + and - to -). The amplifier supports stereo speaker output and screw terminals.
  • Power Connection: Connect the amplifier to a suitable 230 V AC, 50 Hz power outlet using the provided power cable.
  • Loop-through Output: Use the XLR pass-through (stereo RCA/Jack) for connecting to additional amplifiers or audio devices.

4. Operating

The front panel of the SMA-2000 features controls and indicators for easy operation.

4.1 Powering On/Off

Press the POWER switch on the front panel to turn the amplifier ON or OFF. A soft start function is integrated to protect connected equipment.

4.2 Volume Control

Adjust the volume for each channel (CH1 and CH2) using the respective rotary controls on the front panel.

4.3 Mode Selection

On the rear panel, use the mode selector switch to choose between:

  • Stereo: Independent operation of both channels.
  • Parallel: Input signal is sent to both channels, useful for driving multiple speakers with the same signal.
  • Bridge: Combines both channels for mono operation, delivering maximum power to a single speaker.

4.4 Sensitivity Switch

The input sensitivity switch (26 dB / 32 dB) on the rear panel allows you to match the amplifier's input level to your audio source's output level.

4.5 LED Indicators

  • SIGNAL: Illuminates when an audio signal is present on the respective channel.
  • CLIP: Illuminates when the input signal is too high, indicating potential distortion. Reduce the input level or volume.
  • PROTECT: Illuminates when a protection circuit is activated (e.g., short circuit, overheating, DC voltage). The amplifier will mute output to prevent damage. Turn off the unit, resolve the issue, and then power on again.
  • PARALLEL/BRIDGE: Indicates the selected operating mode.

5. Maintenance

5.1 Cleaning

Clean the amplifier's exterior with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use liquid cleaners or solvents. Ensure ventilation grilles are free of dust and debris to maintain optimal cooling.

5.2 Storage

If storing the amplifier for an extended period, disconnect it from power and store it in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.

6. Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
No powerPower cable disconnected; no power from outlet; blown fuse.Check power cable connection; test outlet; replace fuse (if accessible and safe to do so, otherwise contact service).
No sound outputInput cables disconnected; speaker cables disconnected/incorrectly wired; volume too low; PROTECT LED illuminated.Check all cable connections; ensure correct speaker polarity; increase volume; if PROTECT LED is on, refer to its description in Section 4.5.
Distorted sound / CLIP LED onInput signal too high; amplifier overloaded.Reduce input level from source; reduce amplifier volume.
PROTECT LED illuminatedOverheating; short circuit in speaker cables; DC voltage detected.Ensure proper ventilation; check speaker cables for shorts; turn off amplifier, wait for it to cool down, then restart. If problem persists, seek professional service.
