Introduction
The Chamberlain CWPIR Weatherproof Outdoor and Alert System Add-On Sensor is designed to expand your existing Chamberlain CWA2000 Wireless Motion Alert System (sold separately). This passive infrared (PIR) sensor detects motion in outdoor environments, providing an alert to your base unit. It features a robust, weatherproof design suitable for various outdoor conditions and includes adjustable sensitivity settings to minimize false alarms.
Safety Information
- Ensure proper battery installation, observing polarity.
- Do not mix old and new batteries, or different types of batteries.
- Dispose of used batteries according to local regulations.
- Mount the sensor securely to prevent it from falling.
- Avoid pointing the sensor directly at heat sources or moving objects that are not intended to trigger an alert, such as busy roads or swaying branches.

Setup
Battery Installation
The CWPIR sensor requires 4 AA batteries (not included). To install, open the battery compartment, insert the batteries according to the polarity markings, and securely close the compartment. The sensor is designed for a 2-year battery life under normal operating conditions.

Mounting the Sensor
Use the included mounting bracket to secure the sensor in your desired outdoor location. For optimal performance, consider the following:
- Height: Mount the sensor at a height that allows for clear detection of the intended targets (e.g., vehicles, people) while minimizing interference from small animals or ground-level foliage.
- Line of Sight: Ensure a clear line of sight between the sensor and the area you wish to monitor. Obstructions can reduce detection range and signal transmission.
- Angle: Position the sensor to cover the desired detection zone. The sensor offers a wide 120-degree angle coverage.

Pairing with CWA2000 Base Unit
To integrate the CWPIR add-on sensor with your Chamberlain CWA2000 base unit, follow the pairing instructions provided in your CWA2000 base unit manual. Typically, this involves activating a 'learn' mode on the base unit and then triggering the sensor to establish a connection. The sensor transmits a signal up to a half-mile away in ideal conditions.

Operating the Sensor
Motion Detection
The CWPIR sensor utilizes passive infrared technology to detect changes in heat signatures within its detection zone. When motion is detected, the sensor sends a wireless signal to the paired CWA2000 base unit, triggering an alert. The sensor can detect motion up to 30 feet away with a wide 120-degree angle coverage.

Adjustable Sensitivity
The sensor features adjustable sensitivity control. This allows you to fine-tune the detection threshold to prevent unwanted triggers from small animals or environmental factors like strong winds moving foliage. Refer to the sensor unit for the sensitivity adjustment dial or switch.
Maintenance
Battery Replacement
The sensor is designed for approximately 2 years of battery life. When the batteries are low, the CWA2000 base unit may indicate a low battery status for the corresponding sensor. Replace all 4 AA batteries simultaneously to ensure consistent performance.
Weatherproofing
The CWPIR sensor is weatherproof. Periodically inspect the sensor casing and seals for any signs of wear or damage that could compromise its weather resistance. Ensure the battery compartment is always securely closed.

Troubleshooting
- Sensor not detecting motion:
- Check if batteries are correctly installed and have sufficient charge.
- Verify the sensor's sensitivity setting. Increase if necessary.
- Ensure there are no obstructions blocking the sensor's field of view.
- Confirm the sensor is within range of the CWA2000 base unit. - False alarms:
- Reduce the sensor's sensitivity setting.
- Reposition the sensor to avoid direct sunlight, strong winds, or areas with frequent movement of small animals or swaying vegetation.
- Ensure the sensor is not pointed at reflective surfaces or heat sources. - No signal to base unit:
- Check the sensor's batteries.
- Ensure the sensor is properly paired with the CWA2000 base unit (refer to CWA2000 manual).
- Reduce the distance between the sensor and the base unit, or clear any major obstructions. - Corrosion or water intrusion:
- While the sensor is weatherproof, extreme conditions or improper sealing during battery changes can lead to issues. Ensure all covers are tightly secured. If corrosion is present, it may indicate a compromised seal or prolonged exposure to moisture.
