1. Introduction

2. Safety Information

  • Laser Safety: Do not stare directly into the laser beam or direct it at people or animals. The laser is used for aiming only and does not measure temperature.
  • Temperature Range: Do not expose the thermometer to temperatures outside its specified operating range.
  • Cleaning: Clean the device with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or immerse the unit in water.
  • Battery Handling: Ensure correct battery polarity. Remove batteries if the device will not be used for an extended period. Dispose of batteries responsibly.

4. Setup

4.1. Battery Installation

  1. Locate the battery compartment cover on the handle of the thermometer.
  2. Slide the cover open.
  3. Insert two (2) AAA batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-) as indicated inside the compartment.
  4. Close the battery compartment cover securely.

4.2. Initial Power On

Press the trigger to power on the device. The LCD display will illuminate.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1. Non-Contact Infrared Measurement

  1. Point the thermometer at the target surface.
  2. Press and hold the trigger. The laser pointer will activate to assist with aiming.
  3. The temperature reading will appear on the LCD display.
  4. Release the trigger to hold the reading on the display. The "HOLD" icon will appear.

5.2. Thermocouple Measurement (Type K)

The 412-0-8 features an integrated jack for Type K thermocouple probes, allowing for internal temperature measurements.

  1. Insert a compatible Type K thermocouple probe into the jack located on the side of the thermometer.
  2. The display will automatically switch to thermocouple mode, indicated by a specific icon or reading.
  3. Place the probe tip into the substance or area to be measured.
  4. Allow time for the reading to stabilize before recording the temperature.

5.3. Changing Temperature Units (F/C)

To switch between Fahrenheit (°F) and Celsius (°C):

  • Press the F/C button located on the control panel. The display will toggle between the two units.

5.4. Adjusting Emissivity

Emissivity (Emis) is a measure of an object's ability to emit infrared energy. Different materials have different emissivities. The 412-0-8 has a default emissivity of 0.95, suitable for most organic materials and painted surfaces. For other materials, you may need to adjust this setting for accurate readings.

  1. Press the Mode button until "Emis" is displayed.
  2. Use the Up and Down arrow buttons to adjust the emissivity value (from 0.10 to 1.00).
  3. Press the Mode button again to confirm and exit.

5.5. High and Low Alarms

The thermometer features adjustable high and low temperature alarms to alert you when a set temperature threshold is reached.

  1. Press the Mode button repeatedly to cycle through the alarm settings (High Alarm, Low Alarm).
  2. When the desired alarm setting is displayed, use the Up and Down arrow buttons to set the temperature threshold.
  3. Press the Mode button to save the setting and move to the next option, or exit.

6. Maintenance

6.1. Cleaning

  • Wipe the thermometer body with a soft, damp cloth.
  • Do not use abrasive cleaners, solvents, or immerse the unit in water.
  • Keep the infrared lens clean and free of dust or debris for accurate readings. Use a soft brush or compressed air, then gently wipe with a lens cloth if necessary.

6.2. Battery Replacement

When the low battery indicator appears on the display, replace the batteries as described in the "Battery Installation" section (4.1).

6.3. Storage

Store the thermometer in its soft carrying pouch in a cool, dry place when not in use. Remove batteries if storing for extended periods.
