Safety Information
WARNING: Mercury vapor lamps contain mercury. Proper handling, installation, and disposal procedures are critical to ensure safety and environmental protection.
- Always disconnect power at the main circuit breaker or fuse box before attempting any installation, removal, or maintenance of the lamp.
- Do not handle the lamp with bare hands. Use gloves to prevent oils from skin from affecting lamp performance or lifespan.
- Ensure the fixture and ballast are specifically rated for 175-Watt mercury vapor lamps and are compatible with a Mogul (E39/E40) base.
- Do not use this lamp in enclosed fixtures unless the fixture is specifically designed and rated for mercury vapor lamps.
- In case of lamp breakage, ventilate the area. Carefully clean up broken glass and mercury using appropriate methods. Avoid direct contact with mercury. Consult local regulations for proper disposal of broken lamps.
- Dispose of spent lamps according to local, state, and federal regulations. Many jurisdictions require special disposal for mercury-containing products.
Setup and Installation
- Power Disconnection: Before beginning installation, ensure that the power supply to the fixture is completely turned off at the circuit breaker.
- Fixture Compatibility: Verify that the lighting fixture is designed for mercury vapor lamps and has a Mogul (E39/E40) base. The fixture and its associated ballast must be rated for a 175-Watt lamp.
- Lamp Installation: Carefully screw the Satco S1936 lamp into the fixture's Mogul base. Turn clockwise until it is firmly seated, but do not overtighten.
- Power Restoration: Once the lamp is securely installed, restore power to the fixture from the circuit breaker.

Operating Instructions
- Initial Start-up: Upon first application of power, the lamp will strike and begin to warm up. It typically takes several minutes for the lamp to reach full brightness and stable color.
- Restrike Time: If power to the lamp is interrupted, the lamp will require a cool-down period (typically 5-15 minutes) before it can restrike and illuminate again. Attempting to restrike a hot lamp immediately will prevent it from lighting.
- Normal Operation: The lamp is designed for continuous operation within its specified voltage and frequency range (220-240 Volts, 50 Hertz).
Maintenance
- Cleaning: Periodically clean the exterior of the lamp with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth. Ensure the lamp is cool and the power is disconnected before cleaning. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Lamp Replacement: Replace the lamp when it reaches its end of life, indicated by flickering, dimming, or failure to strike. Always replace with a new Satco S1936 lamp or an equivalent 175-Watt mercury vapor lamp with a Mogul base.
- Disposal: Refer to the Safety Information section for proper disposal procedures for mercury-containing lamps.
Troubleshooting
- Lamp Does Not Light:
- Check if the power supply to the fixture is on.
- Ensure the lamp is screwed in firmly to the Mogul base.
- Verify that the ballast is functioning correctly and is compatible with a 175-Watt mercury vapor lamp.
- Inspect the fixture wiring for any loose connections or damage.
- If the lamp was recently turned off, allow for the required cool-down period before attempting to restrike.
- Lamp Flickers or Dims:
- This can be an indication that the lamp is nearing its end of life and requires replacement.
- Check for unstable voltage supply or an incompatible/failing ballast.
- Lamp Cycles On and Off (Starts, goes out, then restarts):
- This is a common symptom of a lamp at the end of its operational life. Replace the lamp.
- Ensure the operating temperature of the fixture is within acceptable limits. Overheating can cause cycling.
