2. Setup and Installation

Before beginning installation, ensure you have all components: the antenna unit, control box, remote control, 50 ft. coaxial cable, and power adapter. Choose a mounting location that is as high as possible and has a clear line of sight to broadcast towers, free from obstructions like trees or buildings.

2.1. Mounting the Antenna

  1. Assemble the Antenna: Carefully unfold or assemble the antenna elements according to the diagrams provided in the packaging. Ensure all connections are secure.
  2. Choose Mounting Location: Select a sturdy mast or pole (not included) in an outdoor location, such as a rooftop, chimney, or side of a house.
  3. Secure the Antenna: Use the provided mounting bracket to securely attach the antenna to the mast. Ensure the antenna is level and stable to prevent movement in windy conditions.

2.2. Connecting the Coaxial Cable

  1. Connect to Antenna: Attach one end of the 50 ft. coaxial cable to the F-connector output on the antenna unit. Tighten the connection firmly.
  2. Route the Cable: Carefully route the coaxial cable from the antenna to the desired indoor location where your TV or DTV tuner is located. Use cable clips or ties to secure the cable and prevent damage. Avoid sharp bends or kinks in the cable.
  3. Connect to Control Box: Connect the other end of the coaxial cable from the antenna to the "ANT IN" port on the control box.
  4. Connect to TV/Tuner: Use a separate coaxial cable (not included) to connect the "TV OUT" port on the control box to the antenna input (ANT IN or CABLE IN) on your television or DTV tuner.

2.3. Powering the System

  1. Connect Power Adapter: Plug the power adapter into the control box.
  2. Plug into Outlet: Plug the power adapter into a standard 120V AC wall outlet. The control box should power on, indicated by an LED light.

3. Operation

Once the antenna system is fully installed and powered, you can begin scanning for channels and optimizing reception using the remote control.

3.1. Scanning for Channels

  1. Access TV Menu: On your television or DTV tuner, navigate to the "Menu" or "Settings" option.
  2. Select Channel Scan: Look for an option like "Channel Scan," "Auto Program," "Auto Tune," or "Antenna Setup."
  3. Start Scan: Initiate the channel scan. This process may take several minutes as your TV searches for available over-the-air broadcasts.

3.2. Rotating the Antenna

The ANT-104 features a motorized base that allows you to rotate the antenna 360 degrees using the included wireless remote control. This is crucial for optimizing signal strength for channels broadcasting from different directions.

  • Remote Control Buttons: The remote typically has two buttons for rotation, often labeled "A" and "B" or directional arrows.
  • Directional Control: Pressing one button will initiate rotation in one direction (e.g., clockwise), and pressing the other will rotate it in the opposite direction (e.g., counter-clockwise). Some remotes may alternate direction with repeated presses of the same button.
  • Optimize Signal: While watching a channel, slowly rotate the antenna using the remote until you achieve the best possible picture and sound quality. You may need to re-scan channels after significant antenna repositioning to pick up new signals.
  • Note on Direction Indicator: This model does not feature a direction indicator on the remote or control box. You will need to observe the signal strength on your TV or visually confirm the antenna's orientation if possible.

4. Maintenance

Regular maintenance helps ensure optimal performance and longevity of your outdoor antenna.

  • Periodic Inspection: Annually inspect the antenna, mounting hardware, and coaxial cable for any signs of wear, corrosion, or damage.
  • Check Connections: Ensure all coaxial cable connections are tight and free from moisture. Consider using weatherproof sealant or tape around outdoor connections.
  • Clean Antenna: Gently clean the antenna elements if they accumulate dirt, dust, or debris, which can affect signal reception. Use a soft cloth and mild detergent if necessary.
  • Weather Protection: While designed for outdoor use, extreme weather conditions (heavy snow, ice, strong winds) can impact performance or cause damage. After severe weather, check the antenna's alignment and physical condition.
  • Avoid Obstructions: Ensure no new obstructions (e.g., tree growth) are blocking the antenna's line of sight to broadcast towers.

5. Troubleshooting

If you experience issues with your ANT-104 antenna, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
No Signal or Poor Reception
  • Antenna not pointed correctly.
  • Loose or damaged coaxial cable connections.
  • Obstructions blocking signal.
  • TV/tuner not set to antenna input.
  • Weak signal in your area.
  • Rotate antenna using remote to find optimal direction.
  • Check all coaxial connections at the antenna, control box, and TV. Ensure they are tight.
  • Verify clear line of sight to broadcast towers.
  • Ensure your TV input is set to "Antenna" or "Air."
  • Perform a new channel scan on your TV.
  • Consider a higher gain antenna or professional installation if signals remain weak.
Remote Control Not Working
  • Dead batteries in remote.
  • Obstruction between remote and control box.
  • Remote control malfunction.
  • Replace batteries in the remote control.
  • Ensure clear line of sight between remote and control box.
  • Verify the control box is powered on.
  • If remote still fails, contact customer support.
Antenna Not Rotating
  • Power issue to control box.
  • Motor malfunction.
  • Cable connection issue between antenna and control box.
  • Check if the control box is powered on and its LED is lit.
  • Ensure the coaxial cable from the antenna is securely connected to the "ANT IN" port on the control box. This cable carries the power and control signals for rotation.
  • If the motor is unresponsive, it may indicate a fault. Contact customer support.
Control Box Overheating
  • Internal component malfunction.
  • Poor ventilation.
  • Immediately unplug the control box from the power outlet.
  • Ensure the control box is placed in a well-ventilated area, away from heat sources.
  • Do not use the unit if it continues to overheat. Contact customer support for assistance.
