General installation steps are outlined below:
- Prepare the Door: Ensure your door has the correct backset (distance from door edge to center of bore hole) and cross bore diameter. The deadbolt is designed to fit most standard residential doors.
- Install the Latch: Insert the deadbolt latch mechanism into the hole on the edge of the door. Ensure the 'UP' arrow (if present) faces upwards. Secure it with the provided screws.
- Install Exterior Cylinder: Place the exterior cylinder assembly through the larger bore hole on the outside of the door. Ensure the tailpiece (the flat bar) passes through the slot in the latch mechanism.
- Install Interior Thumbturn: Position the interior thumbturn assembly on the inside of the door, aligning its slot with the tailpiece from the exterior cylinder.
- Secure the Assemblies: Fasten the interior and exterior assemblies together using the long mounting screws provided. Tighten evenly to prevent binding.
- Install Strike Plate: On the door frame, align and install the strike plate where the deadbolt will extend. Secure it with screws. For enhanced security, use the reinforcement plate if included.
- Test Operation: With the door open, test the deadbolt by turning the thumbturn and using the key from the outside. Ensure the bolt extends and retracts smoothly without resistance. Close the door and test again to confirm proper alignment with the strike plate.

6. Maintenance
- Cleaning: To maintain the polished brass finish, wipe the deadbolt regularly with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid using abrasive cleaners, harsh chemicals, or polishing compounds, as these can damage the finish.
- Lubrication: Annually, apply a small amount of graphite lubricant or a silicone-based spray lubricant into the keyway and the latch mechanism to ensure smooth operation. Do not use oil-based lubricants, as they can attract dirt and dust.
- Screw Tightness: Periodically check and tighten any loose mounting screws to maintain security and proper function.
