Setup and Installation

The Baldwin 85327.050.ENTR Handle Set is designed for easy installation with all necessary mounting hardware included. For detailed visual instructions, refer to the installation template provided in the product packaging.

Before You Begin

  • Ensure your door is prepared for a standard handleset installation.
  • Verify the door thickness and backset measurement. This handleset accommodates an adjustable backset of 2-3/8 inches or 2-3/4 inches.
  • Gather necessary tools such as a screwdriver, tape measure, and pencil.

General Installation Steps

While specific steps are detailed in the included template, the general process involves:

  1. Prepare the Door: Ensure all necessary holes are drilled and aligned according to standard door hardware specifications.
  2. Install the Latch Mechanism: Insert the latch into the door edge and secure it with screws. Adjust the backset if necessary by rotating the latch mechanism.
  3. Install the Exterior Handleset: Position the exterior handle assembly, ensuring the spindle passes through the latch mechanism.
  4. Install the Interior Knob: Attach the interior knob assembly, aligning it with the exterior handleset and securing it with the provided mounting screws.
  5. Test Operation: Verify that the latch retracts smoothly with the thumb plate and the interior knob. Check the keying function from both the exterior and interior.

Operating Instructions

Locking and Unlocking from Exterior

To lock the door from the exterior, insert the key into the cylinder and turn it until the deadbolt extends fully. To unlock, insert the key and turn it in the opposite direction until the deadbolt retracts.

Locking and Unlocking from Interior

To lock the door from the interior, use the thumbturn located on the interior knob. Turn the thumbturn to extend the deadbolt. To unlock, turn the thumbturn in the opposite direction to retract the deadbolt. The interior knob also allows for immediate egress by simply turning the knob.

Maintenance

To maintain the appearance and functionality of your Baldwin handleset, follow these guidelines:

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, damp cloth to clean the surfaces. Avoid abrasive cleaners, solvents, or polishes that may damage the finish.
  • Living Finishes: For finishes such as Oil Rubbed Bronze or Non-Lacquered Brass, expect the finish to change and develop a unique patina over time. This is a natural characteristic of these finishes and not a defect.
  • Lubrication: Periodically lubricate the lock mechanism with a graphite-based lubricant to ensure smooth operation. Do not use oil-based lubricants, as they can attract dirt and cause buildup.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your handleset, consider the following common solutions:

  • Sticking Latch: Check for proper alignment of the latch bolt with the strike plate. Ensure mounting screws are not overtightened, which can cause binding.
  • Key Not Turning: Verify the key is fully inserted and is the correct key for the lock. Check for any obstructions in the keyway.
  • Loose Handle: Tighten any visible set screws or mounting screws that may have become loose over time.
  • Difficulty Locking/Unlocking: Ensure the door is properly closed and not binding in the frame. The latch and deadbolt should align perfectly with the strike plate holes.
