Märklin 78151 Roll Prüfstand H0 Instruction Manual

For Model Locomotives with up to 8 Axles

Introduction

The Märklin 78151 Roll Prüfstand H0 is a specialized test stand designed for the inspection, maintenance, and testing of H0 scale model locomotives. This device allows locomotives to run under power without being on a complete track layout, making it ideal for diagnostics, lubrication, and decoder programming. It supports locomotives with up to 8 axles, providing a stable and controlled environment for various operational checks.

This manual provides essential information for the proper setup, operation, and maintenance of your Märklin 78151 Roll Prüfstand H0. Please read these instructions carefully before use to ensure safe and effective operation.

Safety Information

  • This product is intended for hobby use with H0 scale model trains.
  • Keep out of reach of small children. Recommended age is 7 years and up.
  • Ensure the test stand is placed on a stable, level surface during operation.
  • Disconnect power to the locomotive before placing it on or removing it from the test stand.
  • Do not attempt to modify the test stand. Use only as intended.
  • Avoid contact with moving parts during operation.

Setup

Follow these steps to set up your Märklin 78151 Roll Prüfstand H0:

  1. Unpacking: Carefully remove the Roll Prüfstand from its packaging. Inspect for any visible damage.
  2. Placement: Place the test stand on a clean, flat, and stable surface. Ensure there is sufficient space around the stand for safe operation and access to the locomotive.
  3. Power Connection: The test stand itself does not require direct power. It acts as a track segment. Connect your model railway power supply (transformer or digital control unit) to the track connectors on the test stand, similar to how you would connect power to a regular track section. Ensure correct polarity if using a DC system. For Märklin AC systems, connect the center conductor and outer rail.
  4. Roller Adjustment: The individual roller blocks can be adjusted along the length of the stand. Position them to align with the axles of the locomotive you intend to test. Ensure each driving wheel set rests securely on a pair of rollers. The stand is designed to accommodate up to 8 axles.

Operating Instructions

To operate your locomotive on the Roll Prüfstand:

  1. Power Off: Ensure your model railway power supply is switched off before placing the locomotive on the stand.
  2. Locomotive Placement: Carefully place the locomotive onto the test stand. Ensure all driving wheels are seated correctly on the rollers. For locomotives with multiple axles, adjust the roller blocks as needed to support each driving axle. The pick-up shoe (for Märklin AC systems) or wheel flanges (for DC systems) should make proper contact with the central conductor or rails.
  3. Power On: Switch on your model railway power supply.
  4. Testing: Use your control unit to operate the locomotive. You can test its speed, direction, lighting functions, and sound functions (if equipped) while it remains stationary on the test stand. This is ideal for observing wheel rotation, motor performance, and applying lubrication.
  5. Power Off and Removal: Once testing is complete, switch off the power supply before carefully removing the locomotive from the test stand.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your Roll Prüfstand:

  • Cleaning: Periodically clean the rollers and the track sections with a soft, lint-free cloth. Dust and debris can accumulate and affect performance.
  • Roller Condition: Inspect the rollers for any signs of wear or damage. Ensure they spin freely. If a roller becomes stiff, gently clean its axle.
  • Electrical Contacts: Ensure the electrical contacts on the track sections are clean and free from oxidation to maintain good power transmission to the locomotive.
  • Storage: When not in use, store the test stand in a clean, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.

Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Locomotive does not run.No power to the test stand; poor electrical contact; locomotive issue.Check power supply connection. Ensure locomotive wheels/pickup shoe make good contact with rollers/rails. Test locomotive on a regular track.
Locomotive runs unevenly or stutters.Dirty rollers or track contacts; misaligned locomotive axles; debris on rollers.Clean rollers and track contacts. Re-seat locomotive, ensuring all driving wheels are properly on rollers. Remove any debris.
Rollers are stiff or do not spin freely.Accumulated dust or debris; minor damage.Clean rollers thoroughly. If damage is suspected, contact Märklin support.
