1. Introduction and Overview

The Fluke 1653B is a VDE-certified multifunction installation tester designed to verify the safety of electrical installations in private, commercial, and industrial applications. 2. Setup

2.1. Battery Installation

The Fluke 1653B is battery-powered. Before initial use, or when the low battery indicator appears, ensure fresh batteries are installed. Refer to the battery compartment cover for correct polarity and battery type (typically AA or C cells, depending on the model variant).

1. Locate the battery compartment on the rear of the device.
2. Open the battery compartment cover using a screwdriver or coin if necessary.
3. Insert the required number of batteries, observing the correct polarity (+/-) as indicated inside the compartment.
4. Securely close the battery compartment cover.

2.2. Initial Power On

Press the green power button (labeled with a circle and vertical line) located near the bottom left of the control panel to turn on the device. The digital display will illuminate and perform a self-test.

3.1. Selecting a Measurement Function

Once a function is selected and test leads are connected appropriately, press the large TEST button (located on the bottom left) to initiate the measurement. The display will show the measurement result.

The ZERO button can be used to null out lead resistance for accurate low-ohm measurements.

3.3. Using Memory Functions

The device includes internal memory for storing measurement values. Use the MEMORY button and the arrow keys to navigate and save readings. Refer to the on-screen prompts for specific memory operations.

• Press MEMORY to access memory functions.
• Use the up/down arrow keys to scroll through stored readings or memory locations.
• Function buttons (F1-F4) may provide additional options related to memory, such as saving, recalling, or deleting data.

3.4. PC Interface

The Fluke 1653B features a PC interface for documentation and reporting. Connect the device to a computer using the appropriate cable (sold separately) and use Fluke's software (if applicable) to download and analyze stored data.
