Brand: Anex | Model: 436

1. Introduction

This manual provides instructions for the safe and effective use of your ANEX Ultra Low Profile Offset Ratcheting Screwdriver, Model 436. This tool is designed for accessing and fastening screws in confined or hard-to-reach areas where traditional screwdrivers cannot be used.

2. Safety Information

  • Always wear appropriate eye protection when using hand tools.
  • Ensure the screwdriver bit is correctly seated and matches the screw head type and size to prevent stripping the screw or damaging the bit.
  • Do not use the tool for purposes other than its intended use as a screwdriver.
  • Keep hands and fingers clear of moving parts, especially the ratcheting mechanism.
  • Store the tool in a dry, safe place away from children.

3. Product Overview

4. Setup

The ANEX Model 436 comes with two standard bits: a Phillips (+2 mm) and a Flathead (-6 mm).

  1. Select the Correct Bit: Choose the appropriate bit (Phillips or Flathead) that matches the screw head you intend to work with.
  2. Insert the Bit: Firmly push the selected bit into the magnetic bit holder at the end of the ratcheting head. The magnet will secure the bit in place.

5. Operation

5.1 Ratcheting Mechanism

The screwdriver features a three-position switch on the ratcheting head:

  • Forward (Tighten): Position the switch to allow rotation in the clockwise direction for tightening screws.
  • Reverse (Loosen): Position the switch to allow rotation in the counter-clockwise direction for loosening screws.
  • Locked: Position the switch to lock the head, allowing the tool to be used as a fixed screwdriver.

5.2 Using in Tight Spaces

The ultra-low profile and 90-degree offset head are specifically designed for areas with limited clearance. Insert the bit into the screw head, ensuring a snug fit. The flat handle allows for easy application of pressure.

5.3 Applying Pressure

For effective fastening or loosening, apply downward pressure on the flat handle while rotating the tool. The design of the handle facilitates this, even in awkward positions.

6. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Wipe the tool clean with a dry cloth after each use to remove dirt, grease, or debris. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
  • Storage: Store the screwdriver and bits in a clean, dry environment to prevent rust and damage.
  • Inspection: Periodically inspect the tool for any signs of wear or damage. Discontinue use if any damage is found and replace if necessary.

7. Troubleshooting

  • Bit Slipping: Ensure the bit is fully inserted into the magnetic holder and that it correctly matches the screw head. Worn bits should be replaced.
  • Ratcheting Mechanism Not Engaging: Check the direction switch to ensure it is fully engaged in either the forward or reverse position, not in between.
  • Difficulty Turning Screws: Ensure sufficient downward pressure is applied. For extremely tight screws, apply penetrating oil if appropriate for the application.
