1. Introduction
This manual provides essential information for the safe and effective use of the Vestil DR-LOCK Steel Automatic Overhead Door Lock. Please read this manual thoroughly before installation and operation. Keep this manual for future reference.
The Vestil DR-LOCK is designed to secure overhead doors in various positions, enhancing safety and preventing accidental closure. It features a robust steel construction and a spring-loaded locking latch for reliable performance.
2. Safety Information
WARNING:
- Always ensure the door lock is properly installed and engaged before leaving the door in an elevated position.
- Installation hardware is not included. Use appropriate fasteners for your specific overhead door and track material.
- Do not attempt to operate the door lock if any components are damaged or missing.
- Keep hands and clothing clear of moving parts during operation.
- This device is designed to prevent accidental door closure. It is not a substitute for proper maintenance of the overhead door system.
- Consult a qualified professional for installation if you are unsure about the process.
3. Product Overview
The Vestil DR-LOCK is a durable steel mechanism designed to provide an additional layer of safety for overhead doors. Its primary function is to lock the door in either the fully closed position or any desired elevated position, preventing unexpected descent.

Figure 3.1: Main components of the Vestil DR-LOCK, including the main locking mechanism, two reversible locking plates, and the pull rope.
Key features include:
- Allows overhead doors to be locked in virtually any up position.
- Automatically locks doors in the closed position.
- Prevents the overhead door from unexpectedly "slamming down".
- Protects personnel, product, and equipment.
- Spring-loaded locking latch is released by pulling the included rope.
- Includes two reversible "locking plates" that can be mounted anywhere along the door track.
- Constructed from durable alloy steel with a yellow painted finish.

4. Setup and Installation
The Vestil DR-LOCK is designed for straightforward installation, but proper mounting is crucial for safety and functionality. Installation hardware is not included and must be sourced separately based on your specific door and track type.
4.1 Components Check
Before beginning installation, ensure all components are present and undamaged:
- Main DR-LOCK assembly (yellow steel bracket with spring-loaded latch and pull rope)
- Two reversible locking plates (yellow steel plates with angled edges)

4.2 Mounting Instructions
- Determine Mounting Location: The main DR-LOCK assembly bolts directly to any overhead door. The reversible locking plates can be mounted anywhere along the door track. Consider the desired "up" positions where you wish to lock the door.
- Mount Main Assembly: Secure the main DR-LOCK assembly to the overhead door using appropriate bolts (not included). Ensure it is mounted securely and does not interfere with door movement.
- Mount Locking Plates: Position the reversible locking plates along the door track at the desired height(s) where the door needs to be secured. The plates are designed to engage with the locking pin of the main assembly.

Figure 4.2: Example of a locking plate mounted on the door track, demonstrating its reversible nature and how it stops the door from opening further.
- Test Engagement: Slowly raise or lower the door to ensure the locking pin on the main assembly properly engages with the locking plates. Adjust plate positions as necessary for secure locking.
- Rope Attachment: The included rope is used to release the spring-loaded latch. Ensure the rope is accessible and long enough for convenient operation.
Note: The product dimensions are approximately 5 x 6.5 x 3.94 inches. Consider these dimensions when planning your installation.

5. Operating Instructions
The Vestil DR-LOCK operates automatically to secure the door and is released manually.
5.1 Locking the Door
- In Closed Position: When the overhead door is fully closed, the DR-LOCK automatically engages, preventing the door from being opened unexpectedly.
- In Elevated Position: As the overhead door is raised, the spring-loaded latch will automatically engage with any mounted locking plate it encounters. This secures the door in that specific elevated position, preventing it from falling down.
5.2 Releasing the Lock
To release the lock and allow the door to move:
- Locate the pull rope attached to the DR-LOCK assembly.
- Firmly pull the rope. This action retracts the spring-loaded locking latch from the engaged locking plate.
- While holding the rope, carefully raise or lower the door past the locking plate.
- Once the door has moved past the plate, you may release the rope. The latch will return to its ready position.

6. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and reliable operation of your Vestil DR-LOCK.
- Inspection: Periodically inspect the DR-LOCK assembly, locking plates, and pull rope for any signs of wear, damage, or corrosion. Check for loose bolts or connections.
- Cleaning: Keep the mechanism free from dirt, dust, and debris. A clean cloth can be used to wipe down surfaces.
- Lubrication: Apply a light lubricant to the moving parts of the spring-loaded latch mechanism annually or as needed to ensure smooth operation.
- Rope Condition: Check the pull rope for fraying or damage. Replace if necessary to prevent breakage during operation.
- Hardware Check: Ensure all mounting bolts remain tight. Re-tighten if any looseness is detected.
7. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Lock does not engage automatically. | Locking plates misaligned or too far from the main assembly. Debris obstructing the latch. | Adjust the position of the locking plates. Clean the latch mechanism. |
| Difficulty releasing the lock. | Latching mechanism is stiff or corroded. Rope is frayed or stuck. | Apply lubricant to the latch mechanism. Inspect and replace the rope if damaged. Ensure the rope path is clear. |
| Door still "slams down" unexpectedly. | Locking plates not securely mounted or damaged. Main assembly loose. | Re-secure or replace damaged locking plates. Tighten all mounting hardware for the main assembly. |
| Excessive noise during operation. | Lack of lubrication. Loose components. | Lubricate moving parts. Check and tighten all bolts. |
