4. Operating the Filter System

Once installed, the filter cartridge works by trapping debris and impurities as water passes through its pleated Dacron material. For optimal water clarity, ensure your filter pump runs for an adequate duration each day, typically 8-12 hours, depending on pool size and usage.

5. Maintenance

Regular cleaning and timely replacement of your filter cartridge are essential for efficient pool filtration and longevity of your pump.

Cleaning the Cartridge:

The Dacron filter material is designed to be easy to clean. To clean, remove the cartridge from the pump (following the first four steps of installation in Section 3) and rinse it thoroughly with a garden hose. A high-pressure nozzle can help dislodge trapped debris from the pleats. Do not use harsh chemicals or stiff brushes, as these can damage the filter material.

Replacement Schedule:

For best results and to maintain sparkling clean pool water, it is recommended to replace the filter cartridge every two weeks. Depending on pool usage, water quality, and environmental factors, more frequent cleaning or replacement may be necessary.

6. Troubleshooting

If you experience issues with your pool's filtration, consider the following common troubleshooting steps related to the filter cartridge:

  • Reduced Water Flow: This is often an indication of a clogged filter cartridge. Remove and thoroughly clean or replace the cartridge.
  • Cloudy Pool Water: While multiple factors can cause cloudy water, a dirty or old filter cartridge can contribute. Ensure the cartridge is clean and replaced regularly. Also, check if the pump is running for sufficient hours.
  • Pump Not Priming: Ensure the filter cartridge is correctly seated in the housing and the housing lid is securely tightened. Air leaks can prevent the pump from priming.

For persistent issues, consult your filter pump's owner's manual or contact Intex customer support.
