Important Safety Information

WARNING: To avoid injury, it is imperative to read and thoroughly understand all safety instructions supplied with this tool before operation. Failure to follow these instructions can result in serious injury.

  • Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, hearing protection, and a dust mask, when operating the sander.
  • Ensure the workpiece is securely clamped or otherwise stabilized before sanding to prevent movement.
  • Disconnect the air supply before changing sanding pads, performing maintenance, or when the tool is not in use.
  • Do not operate the sander in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases, or dust.
  • Keep hands and loose clothing away from moving parts.
  • Use only accessories and attachments recommended by Dynabrade.
  • Maintain a firm grip on the tool with both hands during operation.
  • Regularly inspect the tool for damage or wear. Do not use a damaged tool.

Setup

  1. Unpacking: Carefully remove the sander and all accessories from the packaging. Inspect for any shipping damage.
  2. Air Supply Connection:
    • Ensure your air compressor can provide a continuous air pressure of 60 PSI (maximum) at the tool.
    • Connect a suitable air hose (minimum 3/8-inch I.D.) to the sander's air inlet. Use thread sealant on all connections.
    • Install an in-line air filter/regulator/lubricator (FRL) unit as close to the tool as possible to ensure clean, regulated, and lubricated air.
    • Set the air pressure regulator to the recommended operating pressure (typically 60 PSI for optimal performance).
  3. Sanding Pad Installation:
    • Ensure the air supply is disconnected.
    • Align the holes on the sanding pad with the corresponding posts or threads on the sander's spindle (5/16"-24 male spindle).
    • Securely attach the pad, ensuring it is flush and tight.
  4. Abrasive Disc Attachment:
    • Select the appropriate 5-inch abrasive disc for your application.
    • If using hook-and-loop (Velcro) discs, simply press the disc firmly onto the sanding pad, ensuring it is centered.
    • If using PSA (pressure sensitive adhesive) discs, peel off the backing and carefully apply the disc to the pad, pressing firmly from the center outwards to avoid air bubbles.

Operating Instructions

  1. Pre-Operation Check: Before each use, inspect the sander, air hose, and connections for any signs of damage or wear. Ensure the abrasive disc is securely attached.
  2. Grip: Hold the sander firmly with both hands, utilizing the long handle for optimal control and comfort.
  3. Starting the Sander: Connect the air supply. Depress the trigger to start the sander. Allow the sander to reach full speed before contacting the workpiece.
  4. Sanding Technique:
    • Place the spinning sanding pad flat against the workpiece.
    • Apply light, even pressure. Excessive pressure will reduce sanding efficiency, increase heat, and shorten abrasive life.
    • Move the sander in overlapping circular or elliptical patterns to ensure even material removal and prevent swirl marks.
    • For vertical surfaces, the long handle provides excellent leverage and control.
  5. Stopping the Sander: Release the trigger to stop the sander. Lift the sander from the workpiece only after the pad has stopped rotating.
  6. Dust Collection: If your model includes a dust collection port, connect it to a suitable vacuum system or dust bag to minimize airborne dust and improve visibility.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your Dynabrade sander.

  • Daily:
    • Disconnect air supply.
    • Clean the exterior of the tool with a clean, dry cloth.
    • Check the sanding pad for wear or damage. Replace if necessary.
    • Ensure the air filter/regulator/lubricator (FRL) unit is functioning correctly and the lubricator reservoir has oil.
  • Weekly/Monthly (depending on usage):
    • Inspect the air hose for cracks, leaks, or damage.
    • Check all fasteners for tightness.
    • If the tool is used heavily, consider professional servicing to inspect internal components.
  • Lubrication: Ensure the air supply is properly lubricated via an in-line lubricator. If no in-line lubricator is used, add 2-3 drops of pneumatic tool oil into the air inlet before each use.
  • Storage: Store the sander in a clean, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
