3. Setup
3.1. Battery Installation and Charging
- Install Battery Pack: Remove the battery compartment cover on the back of the radio. Insert the provided rechargeable NiMH battery pack, ensuring correct polarity. Replace the cover securely. Alternatively, you may use 4 AA alkaline batteries (not included) per radio.
- Charge Battery Pack: Place the radios into the desktop charger. Connect the AC wall adapter or DC vehicle adapter to the charger and a power source. The charging indicator light will illuminate. Allow approximately 12-14 hours for a full charge. For initial use, charge the battery pack for a full 24 hours.

3.2. Attaching the Belt Clip
Align the belt clip with the grooves on the back of the radio and slide it down until it clicks into place. To remove, lift the tab on the belt clip and slide it upwards.
3.3. Attaching the Headset
Insert the headset plug into the audio jack located on the side of the radio. Ensure the plug is fully inserted for proper operation.

4.2. Power On/Off and Volume
- Power On: Rotate the ON/OFF/VOLUME knob clockwise until you hear a click.
- Power Off: Rotate the ON/OFF/VOLUME knob counter-clockwise until you hear a click.
- Adjust Volume: Rotate the ON/OFF/VOLUME knob to increase or decrease the listening volume.
4.3. Channel Selection
Your radio has 50 GMRS channels. To change channels:
- Press the MENU/WX button once. The channel number will flash.
- Use the UP or DOWN buttons to select your desired channel.
- Press the PTT button to confirm the selection and exit the menu, or press MENU/WX again to move to the next setting.

4.5. Privacy Codes (CTCSS/DCS)
The GXT1050VP4 offers 142 privacy codes (38 CTCSS and 104 DCS) to minimize interference from other users on the same channel. When a privacy code is set, you will only hear transmissions from users who are transmitting on the same channel and with the same privacy code.
- Press the MENU/WX button twice to enter the privacy code setting. The current privacy code will flash.
- Use the UP or DOWN buttons to select your desired privacy code.
- Press the PTT button to confirm and exit, or MENU/WX to proceed.
4.6. NOAA Weather Scan & Alert
The radio can scan 10 NOAA weather band channels and alert you to severe weather. This feature is crucial for outdoor safety.
- Weather Scan: Press and hold the MENU/WX button to activate NOAA Weather Scan. The radio will scan for the strongest weather channel.
- Weather Alert: When Weather Alert is enabled (via the menu), the radio will automatically monitor the selected weather channel and alert you to severe weather broadcasts, even if you are on a GMRS channel.
4.7. VOX/EVOX Hands-Free Operation
VOX (Voice Operated Exchange) allows hands-free transmission. EVOX offers 9 sensitivity levels for precise voice activation.
- Press the MENU/WX button until the VOX icon flashes.
- Use the UP or DOWN buttons to select the desired sensitivity level (1-9, with 9 being most sensitive) or turn VOX off.
- Press the PTT button to confirm and exit.
4.8. Channel Scan
The Channel Scan feature allows you to monitor all 50 GMRS channels for activity.
- Press the MON/SCAN button once to activate Channel Scan. The radio will scan through channels and stop on any active channel.
- Press MON/SCAN again to stop scanning.
