Connect the other end of the cable to the AV or S-video input ports on your television. Ensure the colors of the plugs match the colors of the ports (Yellow for Video, White for Left Audio, Red for Right Audio).
  2. Connect Power: Insert the AC adapter cable into the DC 9V IN port on the back of the console (refer to Image 3). Plug the AC adapter into a standard wall outlet.
  3. Connect Controllers: Plug the wired controllers into the 'PLAYER 1' and 'PLAYER 2' ports on the front of the console (refer to Image 2).
  4. Power On TV: Turn on your television and select the correct AV or S-video input channel.

Operating Instructions

To begin playing games on your Retro-Bit Retro Duo console:

  1. Insert Game Cartridge:
    • For 8-bit NES games, insert the cartridge into the upper slot (8-bit slot) on the console.
    • For 16-bit SNES games, insert the cartridge into the lower slot (16-bit slot) on the console.
Ensure the cartridge is inserted firmly and correctly. The console features reinforced cartridge doors and slide-proof bottom support to hold cartridges securely.
  2. Select System Mode: Locate the 8-bit/16-bit switch on the console (refer to Image 1). Slide the switch to the appropriate position for the game you intend to play (e.g., '8-BIT' for NES games, '16-BIT' for SNES games).
  3. Power On: Press the POWER button on the console. The power indicator light should illuminate.
  4. Play Game: Use the connected controllers to play your game. The console is compatible with original 16-bit controllers.
  5. Reset Game: To restart the current game, press the RESET button on the console.
  6. Power Off: When finished playing, press the POWER button again to turn off the console. Remove game cartridges carefully.

Maintenance

Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your console:

  • Cleaning the Console: Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe the exterior of the console. Do not use liquid cleaners, solvents, or abrasive materials, as these can damage the finish or internal components.
  • Cleaning Game Cartridges: If a game is not loading properly, the cartridge contacts may be dirty. Use a cotton swab lightly dampened with isopropyl alcohol to gently clean the metal contacts on the game cartridge. Allow the contacts to dry completely before reinserting the cartridge into the console.
  • Storage: Store the console and game cartridges in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, extreme temperatures, and excessive dust.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your Retro-Bit Retro Duo console, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

  • No Power:
    • Ensure the AC adapter is securely connected to the console and a working power outlet.
    • Verify that the power outlet is active.
  • No Video or Audio Output:
    • Check that the AV/S-video cable is securely connected to both the console and the television.
    • Confirm that your television is set to the correct input channel (e.g., AV1, Video 1, S-Video).
    • Ensure the game cartridge is clean and fully inserted into the correct slot.
  • Game Not Loading or Freezing:
    • Remove the game cartridge, clean its contacts (see Maintenance section), and reinsert it firmly.
    • Verify that the 8-bit/16-bit system selection switch is set to the correct mode for the game being played.
    • Some older cartridges may require multiple attempts to load due to wear or manufacturing variations.
  • Controller Not Responding:
    • Ensure the controller is securely plugged into the 'PLAYER 1' or 'PLAYER 2' port.
    • Test with the second included controller to rule out a faulty controller.
  • Game Compatibility Notes:
    • The Retro Duo is compatible with most NES and SNES games, including many Japanese titles.
    • However, due to variations in original hardware and game programming, some specific games or accessories may not function correctly. Known examples of games that may exhibit issues include Battletoads (NES), Digger T. Rock (NES), Maniac Mansion (NES), Paperboy (NES), and Super Mario RPG (SNES).
    • Original NES accessories such as the NES Zapper, Power Pad, NES Advantage, NES Max, and Power Glove are generally not supported without specific adapters. The NES Zapper also requires a CRT television to function.
    • Famicom games are not directly compatible.
