Setup Instructions

Setting up your Coleman Montana tent is designed to be straightforward. For optimal results, two people are recommended for assembly.

  1. Choose a Site: Select a flat, clear area free of sharp objects and debris.
  2. Unpack and Lay Out: Remove the tent body from the carry bag and spread it out on the chosen site. Ensure the door faces the desired direction.
  3. Assemble Poles: Connect the shock-corded tent poles. Note that poles may be color-coded to match corresponding sleeves on the tent.
  4. Insert Poles: Slide the assembled poles through the continuous pole sleeves on the tent body.
  5. Secure Poles: Insert the ends of the poles into the patented pin-and-ring system at the tent's base. Lift the tent as you do this to create the tent's shape.
  6. Attach Rainfly: Drape the rainfly over the tent body, aligning the door and window openings. Secure the rainfly to the tent poles and base using the attached buckles or hooks. The rainfly includes a pole for its extended door awning.
  7. Stake Down: Secure the tent and rainfly to the ground using all provided stakes. This enhances stability and weather resistance.

Maintenance and Care

Proper care will extend the life of your Coleman Montana tent.

  • Cleaning: Hand wash the tent fabric with mild soap and water. Do not use harsh detergents, bleach, or machine wash. Allow the tent to air dry completely before packing.
  • Drying: Always ensure the tent is completely dry before storing to prevent mildew and fabric degradation.
  • Storage: Store the tent in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
  • Seam Sealing: Periodically inspect tent seams for wear. Applying a seam sealer to exposed seams can enhance waterproofing, especially in areas prone to pinholes.
  • Pole Care: Inspect poles for damage before and after each use. Clean any dirt or debris from pole sections.

Troubleshooting

Common issues and their solutions:

  • Water Leakage: Ensure the rainfly is correctly installed and taut. Check for any small holes or worn seams and apply seam sealer if necessary. Verify that the tent is staked down properly to prevent pooling water.
  • Difficulty with Zippers: Zippers can sometimes snag on fabric flaps. Gently pull the fabric away from the zipper path while operating. Keep zippers clean from dirt and debris.
  • Tent Not Standing Firmly: Ensure all poles are fully assembled and correctly inserted into the pin-and-ring system. All guy lines and stakes must be properly secured to provide maximum stability.
  • Repacking Difficulty: The tent is large and may require careful folding and rolling to fit back into the expandable carry bag. Expel as much air as possible during rolling.
