Inspect the scanner for any signs of damage. If any components are missing or damaged, contact Uniden customer support.
Power Connection
The scanner can be powered by either AC or DC sources.
- For AC Operation (Base): Connect the AC adapter to the scanner's power input jack and then plug the adapter into a standard wall outlet.
- For DC Operation (Mobile): Use the provided DC power cable. Connect the cable to the scanner's power input and the other end to your vehicle's 12V power source (e.g., cigarette lighter socket). Ensure proper polarity.
Antenna Connection
Connect the supplied antenna to the antenna jack on the back of the scanner. For optimal reception, ensure the antenna is securely fastened and positioned away from obstructions.
Mobile Mounting (Optional)
If using the scanner in a vehicle, utilize the included mobile mounting kit. Follow the kit's specific instructions for secure installation. Ensure the scanner is mounted in a location that does not obstruct your view or interfere with vehicle controls.
Operation
Basic Controls
Familiarize yourself with the scanner's front panel controls and LCD display. The display shows frequency, channel number, and various status indicators.
Turning On/Off
Press the POWER button to turn the scanner on or off. The LCD display will illuminate upon power-up.
Channel Programming
The Bearcat 350A features 50 channels. Refer to the detailed programming section in the full manual for specific steps on how to store and recall frequencies. This typically involves entering a frequency and then assigning it to a channel memory location.
Scanning
To begin scanning programmed channels, press the SCAN button. The scanner will cycle through active channels, stopping on any detected transmissions.
- Band Search: Use the Band Search feature to scan a specific range of frequencies for activity.
- Service Search: The scanner includes preprogrammed service search bands for Fire/Emergency, Local Police, and Aircraft. Activate these modes to quickly monitor relevant transmissions.
One-Touch Weather
Press the dedicated WEATHER button to instantly access the NOAA Weather Radio broadcast, providing local weather alerts and forecasts.
Channel Lockout
To temporarily skip a busy or unwanted channel during scanning, use the CHANNEL LOCKOUT function. This prevents the scanner from stopping on that specific channel until the lockout is deactivated.
Squelch Control
Adjust the SQUELCH knob to eliminate background noise when no signal is present. Turn it clockwise until the static disappears, but not so far that it blocks weak signals.
Maintenance
Cleaning
To clean the scanner, use a soft, dry cloth. For stubborn dirt, slightly dampen the cloth with water. Do not use harsh chemicals, solvents, or abrasive cleaners, as these can damage the casing and display.
Storage
When not in use for extended periods, store the scanner in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Disconnect the power supply and antenna.
Antenna Care
Ensure the antenna connection remains secure and free from corrosion. Avoid bending or stressing the antenna excessively, which could lead to damage.
