1. Product Overview

Figure 1.1: Wolfcraft SDS-Plus Concrete Core Drill Bit 5480000.
The Wolfcraft SDS-Plus Concrete Core Drill Bit, Model 5480000, is a high-performance tool designed for efficient drilling in various hard materials. It features a robust tungsten carbide construction and an SDS-Plus shank for compatibility with hammer drills.
Intended Use: This core drill bit is specifically engineered for creating precise, circular holes in concrete, masonry, and natural stone. It is ideal for electrical installations, plumbing, and general construction or renovation tasks.
Key Features:
- Tungsten carbide-tipped for durability and efficient material removal.
- SDS-Plus shank for secure and impact-resistant connection to hammer drills.
- Integrated pilot drill for accurate positioning and stable drilling.
- Maximum cutting depth of 46 mm.
- Tool-free removal and replacement of the pilot drill bit.
2. Safety Instructions
Always adhere to general power tool safety guidelines and the specific instructions provided with your hammer drill. Failure to do so may result in serious injury or damage to the tool.
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Always wear safety glasses, hearing protection, and work gloves when operating the core drill bit. A dust mask is recommended, especially when drilling in dusty environments.
- Secure Workpiece: Ensure the material being drilled is securely clamped or stable to prevent movement during operation.
- Tool Condition: Before each use, inspect the core drill bit and pilot drill for any signs of damage, cracks, or excessive wear. Do not use damaged tools.
- Correct Speed: Operate the hammer drill at the appropriate speed for the material and drill bit size. Excessive speed can lead to overheating and premature wear.
- Avoid Obstructions: Before drilling, check for hidden electrical wires, gas pipes, or water pipes in the wall using a suitable detector.
- Dust Management: Ensure adequate ventilation or use a dust extraction system to minimize dust exposure.
- Cooling: For prolonged drilling, allow the drill bit to cool periodically to prevent overheating.
3. Components
The Wolfcraft SDS-Plus Concrete Core Drill Bit consists of the following main components:
- Core Drill Body: The main cylindrical part with tungsten carbide cutting segments.
- SDS-Plus Shank: The attachment end designed for SDS-Plus hammer drills.
- Pilot Drill Bit: A smaller, central drill bit (Ø 8 mm) for initial positioning.

4. Setup and Assembly
The core drill bit is supplied pre-assembled. Follow these steps for attachment to your hammer drill:
- Ensure your hammer drill is unplugged or its battery is removed before attaching any accessories.
- Clean the SDS-Plus shank of the core drill bit and the chuck of your hammer drill.
- Insert the SDS-Plus shank into the hammer drill's chuck. Push firmly and rotate slightly until it locks into place. Pull on the drill bit to ensure it is securely seated.
- The pilot drill bit (Ø 8 mm, 70 mm length) is pre-installed. It can be removed or replaced without tools by manipulating the pin mechanism on the shank.

5. Operation
Follow these steps for effective and safe operation:
- Material Preparation: Mark the exact drilling location on the workpiece. Ensure the surface is clean and free from loose debris.
- Drill Settings: Set your hammer drill to the appropriate mode (hammer drilling for concrete/masonry). For initial positioning, you may start in rotation-only mode to create a shallow guide hole with the pilot drill, then switch to hammer drilling.
- Positioning: Place the pilot drill bit precisely on your marked center point.
- Drilling: Apply steady, even pressure. Allow the drill bit to do the work. Do not force the drill. The SDS-Plus shank is designed to withstand percussion impacts.
- Dust Evacuation: The core drill bit is designed for good dust evacuation during operation.
- Depth Control: The maximum cutting depth is 46 mm. If deeper holes are required, drill from both sides of the material if accessible.

6. Maintenance
Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and performance of your core drill bit.
- Cleaning: After each use, clean the drill bit thoroughly to remove dust and debris. Use a brush or compressed air. Do not use harsh chemicals that could damage the material.
- Inspection: Regularly inspect the tungsten carbide tips for chipping or excessive wear. Check the SDS-Plus shank for damage or deformation.
- Pilot Drill: The pilot drill bit is a wear part. Replace it when it becomes dull or damaged to maintain drilling accuracy. The tool-free removal system facilitates this.
- Storage: Store the core drill bit in a dry place, protected from moisture and impact.
7. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues during operation, consider the following:
- Poor Drilling Performance: Ensure the hammer drill is set to the correct mode (hammer drilling). Check if the tungsten carbide tips are worn or damaged. Replace if necessary. Verify the pilot drill is sharp and correctly installed.
- Excessive Vibration/Wobbling: Ensure the core drill bit is securely seated in the hammer drill chuck. Check for any damage to the SDS-Plus shank or the core drill body.
- Overheating: Reduce drilling pressure and allow the drill bit to cool periodically. Ensure proper dust evacuation.
- Pilot Drill Loosening: Re-secure the pilot drill using its pin mechanism. If the mechanism is damaged, replace the pilot drill.
