Setup
The Samson Go Mic offers plug-and-play operation, requiring no special drivers for most operating systems (Mac and Windows). Follow these steps for initial setup:
- Connect the Go Mic: Use the included USB cable to connect the Go Mic to an available USB port on your computer.
- Position the Microphone: The Go Mic features a unique folding design that allows it to clip directly onto your laptop screen or sit unobtrusively on your desk. Position the microphone so that the Samson logo faces the sound source (e.g., your mouth).
- Select Input Device: Your computer should automatically recognize the Go Mic as an audio input device. You may need to select 'Samson Go Mic' as your default microphone in your operating system's sound settings or within your recording/communication software (e.g., Zoom, OBS, Audacity).
- Monitor Audio: For direct, zero-latency monitoring of your audio, plug headphones into the 1/8-inch (3.5mm) headphone output jack located on the side of the Go Mic.

Operating the Go Mic
The Go Mic features two switchable pickup patterns, allowing you to optimize its performance for different recording scenarios:
- Cardioid Pattern: This pattern captures sound primarily from the front of the microphone, rejecting sound from the sides and rear. It is ideal for individual podcasts, streaming, or voiceovers where you want to focus on a single speaker and minimize background noise.
- Omnidirectional Pattern: This pattern picks up sound equally from all directions (360-degree coverage). It is best suited for recording group discussions, conference calls, or capturing ambient sounds where you need to record audio from multiple sources around the microphone.
To switch between patterns, locate the small switch on the side of the microphone and slide it to your desired setting (Cardioid or Omni).

Maintenance
To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your Samson Go Mic, follow these simple maintenance guidelines:
- Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe down the microphone's exterior. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.
- Storage: When not in use, store the Go Mic in its included carry case to protect it from dust, dirt, and physical damage.
- Handling: Handle the microphone with care. Avoid dropping it or subjecting it to excessive force.
- Environmental Conditions: Keep the microphone away from extreme temperatures, high humidity, and direct sunlight.
Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your Samson Go Mic, try the following troubleshooting steps:
- Microphone Not Recognized:
- Ensure the USB cable is securely connected to both the microphone and your computer.
- Try a different USB port on your computer.
- Restart your computer.
- Check your computer's sound settings to ensure the Go Mic is selected as the input device.
- No Sound or Low Volume:
- Verify that the microphone is selected as the input device in your software.
- Adjust the input level (gain) in your computer's sound settings or recording software.
- Ensure you are speaking directly into the front of the microphone (side with the Samson logo) when using the cardioid pattern.
- Distorted Sound:
- Reduce the input level (gain) to prevent clipping.
- Ensure you are not too close to the microphone.
- Check for any software effects or processing that might be causing distortion.
