Setup

Powering the Radio

The G3 radio can be powered by batteries or an AC adapter.

Battery Installation

  1. Locate the battery compartment on the back of the radio (refer to Figure 2).
  2. Slide the battery compartment cover downwards to open.
  3. Insert four (4) AA batteries (LR6, AM3) according to the polarity indicators (+/-) inside the compartment.
  4. Close the battery compartment cover securely.

Important: Do not attempt to charge non-rechargeable batteries within the unit. If using rechargeable Ni-MH AA batteries, the radio can charge them when connected to the AC adapter.

Using the AC Adapter

  • Connect the supplied AC adapter to the DC 8V input jack on the left side of the radio (refer to Figure 4).
  • Plug the AC adapter into a standard wall outlet.
  • When the AC adapter is connected, the radio will draw power from the adapter, and the display backlight will remain on continuously.

Operating Instructions

Turning On/Off

  • Press the Power button (Power button icon) located on the top right of the front panel to turn the radio on or off.

Setting the Time and Alarm

The G3 features a clock and multiple alarm functions. Refer to the full owner's manual for detailed steps on setting the time, time zone, and configuring alarms, as this process involves multiple button presses and timing.

Band Selection

Press the corresponding band button to select your desired frequency range:

  • FM/AIR: For FM broadcast stations (88-108 MHz) and VHF Aircraft band (118-137 MHz).
  • AM: For Medium Wave (MW) broadcast stations (530-1710 KHz).
  • METERBAND: For Shortwave (SW) broadcast stations (150-30000 KHz).

Tuning Methods

Manual Tuning

  • Rotate the large Tuning Knob on the right side of the radio to adjust the frequency up or down.
  • For fine-tuning on Shortwave, use the FINE +/- slider located below the tuning knob.

Direct Frequency Entry

  • Use the Numeric Keypad (0-9) to directly enter the desired frequency.
  • Press the appropriate band button (FM/AIR, AM, METERBAND) after entering the frequency to confirm.

Auto Search

  • Press the AUTO Search Up or Down buttons to automatically scan for available stations.

Advanced Features

Single-Side Band (SSB) Reception

  • Press the SYNC/SSB button to toggle SSB mode. This is essential for clear reception of amateur radio and utility signals on Shortwave.
  • Use the FINE +/- slider to fine-tune the frequency for optimal SSB voice clarity.

Radio Data System (RDS)

  • When tuned to an FM station broadcasting RDS data, press the RDS MODE button to display information such as station name, song title, or messages on the LCD.

Memory Programming

The G3 allows you to store up to 700 frequencies. Consult the full manual for detailed instructions on storing and recalling stations from memory.

Lock Function

  • Press the Lock button (Lock button icon) to prevent accidental changes to the frequency or settings. The "LOCK" indicator will appear on the display. Press again to unlock.

Connecting External Devices

  • Headphone Output: Connect 3.5 mm headphones to the headphone jack on the left side of the radio for private listening (refer to Figure 4). The internal speaker will be muted.
  • Line-in/out: Use the 3.5 mm Line-in/out jack on the right side (refer to Figure 3) to connect the radio to an external audio amplifier or recording device.
  • External Antenna Jack: For improved reception on SW, FM, and Aircraft bands, connect an external antenna to the dedicated jack.

Maintenance

Cleaning

  • Wipe the radio's exterior with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Ensure the radio is powered off and disconnected from the AC adapter before cleaning.

Battery Care

  • Remove batteries if the radio will not be used for an extended period to prevent leakage.
  • Dispose of used batteries according to local regulations.
