Introduction

This manual provides essential instructions for the safe and effective use of your Panasonic Lumix DMC-FS7 10MP Digital Camera. Please read this manual thoroughly before using the camera and retain it for future reference.

The Lumix DMC-FS7 features a 10.1-megapixel sensor, a bright F2.8 Leica DC Vario-Elmarit lens with 4x optical zoom, and Intelligent Auto (iA) mode for simplified operation. It also includes Mega O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer) to reduce blur from camera shake.

Setup

  1. Charging the Battery: Insert the battery into the supplied charger and connect it to a power outlet. The charging indicator will show the charging status. Ensure the battery is fully charged before first use.
  2. Inserting the Battery: Open the battery/card compartment cover on the bottom of the camera. Insert the charged battery with the correct orientation until it clicks into place. Close the cover securely.
  3. Inserting a Memory Card: The camera supports SD/SDHC memory cards. Open the battery/card compartment cover. Insert the memory card into the slot with the label facing the front of the camera until it clicks. Close the cover.
  4. Initial Settings: Turn on the camera using the power switch (refer to Figure 2). The first time you power on, you may be prompted to set the date, time, and language. Follow the on-screen instructions using the control buttons.

Operating the Camera

Power On/Off

  • To turn on the camera, slide the ON/OFF switch located on the top of the camera to the ON position.
  • To turn off the camera, slide the ON/OFF switch to the OFF position.

Taking Photos

  1. Select a Mode:
    • Press the dedicated iA button (Intelligent Auto) on the top of the camera for automatic scene detection and optimal settings.
    • Use the MODE button (refer to Figure 3) to select other shooting modes like Program AE, Scene Modes (e.g., Portrait, Scenery, Sports), or My Scene settings.
  2. Frame Your Shot: Use the 2.7-inch LCD screen to compose your image.
  3. Zoom: Use the zoom lever around the shutter button to adjust the optical zoom (4x) or digital zoom.
  4. Focus: Press the shutter button halfway down to activate autofocus. The camera will focus on the subject, and the focus indicator will illuminate.
  5. Take the Picture: Press the shutter button fully down to capture the image.

Recording Videos

  • Switch to movie mode using the MODE button.
  • Press the shutter button to start recording. Press it again to stop.
  • The camera can record WVGA (848 x 480) motion pictures at 30 frames per second in 16:9 wide-screen format, as well as standard VGA (640 x 480) format.

Viewing and Deleting

  • Press the playback button (usually indicated by a triangle icon, refer to Figure 3) to enter playback mode.
  • Use the directional buttons to navigate through your photos and videos.
  • To delete an image or video, select it and press the trash can icon button (refer to Figure 3). Confirm deletion when prompted.

Maintenance

  • Cleaning the Lens and Screen: Use a soft, lint-free cloth specifically designed for optical surfaces. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents. Gently wipe the lens and LCD screen to remove dust and smudges.
  • Battery Care: Store the battery in a cool, dry place when not in use. Avoid extreme temperatures. If the camera will not be used for an extended period, remove the battery.
  • Memory Card Handling: Always format new memory cards in the camera before first use. Avoid removing the memory card while the camera is writing data or powered on.
  • Camera Body: Wipe the camera body with a soft, dry cloth. Do not expose the camera to water or excessive moisture.

Troubleshooting

ProblemSolution
Camera does not turn on.Ensure the battery is fully charged and correctly inserted. Check if the power switch is in the ON position.
Images are blurry.Ensure the lens is clean. Hold the camera steady or use the Mega O.I.S. feature. Check lighting conditions; use flash if necessary.
Memory card error.Reinsert the memory card. Ensure it is not locked. Try formatting the card (this will erase all data). Use a different compatible SD/SDHC card.
Flash does not fire.Check the flash mode settings. Ensure the flash is not set to "Flash Off" or "Red-Eye Reduction" in bright conditions.
Cannot record video.Ensure there is sufficient space on the memory card. Check if the camera is in video recording mode.
