Setup and Assembly

1. Unboxing and Component Identification

Carefully open the product packaging. Remove all components, including the main trailer body, two 16-inch wheels, the trailer tongue, a small bag of parts (containing quick-release skewers and safety pins), and the instruction manual. Ensure all parts are present and undamaged.

2. Assembling the Trailer Frame

  1. Unfold the main trailer body.
  2. Locate the safety latch for the trailer tongue. Secure the tongue in its forward, extended position using the provided safety pin.
  3. Lift and secure the side panels of the trailer. Use the remaining safety latches to lock them into place. Ensure the front and rear gates are also hinged upwards and secured with their respective safety latches.

3. Attaching the Wheels

  1. Remove the protective end caps from both wheel axles.
  2. Identify the tire rotation direction. Each tire has a rotation mark with an arrow; ensure this arrow will point towards the front of the trailer when installed.
  3. Disassemble one quick-release skewer by removing the nut, conical spring, and safety tab from one end.
  4. Insert the skewer through the wheel axle. Reassemble the conical spring and safety tab onto the skewer, ensuring both are pointed inwards towards the wheel's center.
  5. Lift the trailer slightly off the ground to facilitate wheel installation.
  6. Align the wheel with the trailer's dropouts. Carefully guide the frame dropouts over the wheel axle.
  7. Secure the safety tabs into the small holes on the dropouts.
  8. Tighten the quick-release lever. Continue tightening until resistance is met when the lever is parallel to the axle. Push the lever down to lock it in place.
  9. Repeat the process for the second wheel.

4. Attaching to the Bicycle

  1. The trailer attaches to the rear axle of your bicycle. It is compatible with both quick-release and bolt-on wheel types.
  2. Loosen the quick-release mechanism on your bicycle's rear wheel. It is not necessary to completely remove it.
  3. Position the trailer's bracket onto the bicycle's rear axle, underneath the quick-release mechanism.
  4. Ensure the bracket and the quick-release nut are centered. Tighten the quick-release until it meets resistance in the parallel position to the axle, then fully tighten.
  5. Attach the safety cord from the trailer to the rear chain stay of your bicycle. Ensure it is wrapped securely and tightly.

Operating Instructions

Loading Cargo

  • The M-Wave trailer has a maximum load capacity of 88 lbs (40 kg). Do not exceed this weight limit.
  • Distribute cargo evenly within the trailer to maintain balance and stability during transport.
  • Secure all cargo using appropriate straps or bungee cords to prevent shifting or falling out during transit.

Towing the Trailer

  • Always ensure the trailer is securely attached to the bicycle and the safety cord is in place before riding.
  • Be mindful of the increased length and weight of your bicycle when towing the trailer, especially when turning, braking, or navigating tight spaces.
  • Avoid sudden movements or excessive speeds, as this can affect trailer stability.

Maintenance

General Care

  • Regularly inspect all bolts, nuts, and quick-release mechanisms to ensure they are tight and secure.
  • Clean the trailer periodically with mild soap and water. Dry thoroughly to prevent rust, especially on metal components.
  • Store the trailer in a dry place when not in use. Its foldable design allows for compact storage.

Tire Care

  • Check tire pressure before each use. The tires are sized 16 x 1.75". Refer to the tire sidewall for recommended inflation pressure.
  • Inspect tires for any signs of wear, punctures, or damage. Replace worn or damaged tires promptly.

Troubleshooting

  • Trailer Wobbles or Feels Unstable: Ensure all quick-release mechanisms (on wheels and bicycle attachment) are fully tightened. Verify cargo is evenly distributed and secured.
  • Wheel Detaches During Ride: Immediately stop and check the quick-release skewer and safety tabs. Ensure they are correctly installed and tightened. The safety tabs are designed to prevent complete wheel detachment even if the quick-release loosens.
  • Difficulty Attaching to Bicycle: Confirm the quick-release skewer on your bicycle's rear wheel is sufficiently loosened to allow the trailer bracket to fit properly. Ensure the bracket is centered before tightening.
