Setup
1. Unpacking
Carefully remove the pencil sharpener and its components from the packaging. Verify that all parts, including the sharpener unit and the desk clamp, are present and undamaged.
2. Attaching the Desk Clamp
- Locate the clamp attachment point on the underside of the sharpener unit.
- Insert the metal arm of the clamp into the designated slot until it is seated firmly.
- Position the sharpener on the edge of a stable surface, such as a desk or table.
- Tighten the clamp screw by turning it clockwise until the sharpener is securely fastened and does not move during operation.

Operating Instructions
1. Adjusting Pencil Point (Optional)
The DAHLE 155 allows for adjustment of the pencil point. To select your desired sharpness, rotate the adjustment dial located near the pencil insertion hole. Typically, rotating towards a higher number or specific icon will yield a finer point, while rotating towards a lower number or different icon will result in a blunter point.
2. Sharpening a Pencil
- Gently insert the pencil into the sharpening hole until it is firmly gripped by the internal mechanism. Ensure the pencil is inserted straight and without excessive force.
- Begin turning the crank handle clockwise. Apply steady, even pressure.
- Continue turning the handle. The sharpener features an automatic cutting stop; the handle will begin to turn freely once the pencil has reached the desired sharpness, preventing over-sharpening.
- Once the handle turns freely, carefully remove the sharpened pencil.

Maintenance
1. Emptying the Shavings Tray
The DAHLE 155 features a transparent shavings tray, allowing you to easily monitor its contents and determine when it needs emptying. To empty the tray:
- Carefully pull out the transparent shavings tray from the front of the sharpener.
- Dispose of the collected pencil shavings in a waste bin.
- Slide the tray back into its position until it clicks securely into place.

2. Cleaning
Wipe the exterior surfaces of the sharpener with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners, solvents, or excessive moisture, as these can damage the plastic body or internal mechanisms. Avoid getting water inside the sharpening mechanism.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Pencil not sharpening or sharpening unevenly. | Pencil not inserted correctly; blade dull or jammed; shavings tray full. | Ensure pencil is inserted firmly and straight. Empty shavings tray. If the problem persists, the internal blade may be worn and require professional servicing (the blade is not user-replaceable). |
| Crank handle is stiff or difficult to turn. | Shavings buildup in mechanism; pencil inserted too forcefully. | Empty the shavings tray. Ensure the pencil is not forced into the sharpener. Turn the handle gently and consistently. |
| Sharpener slides on desk during use. | Clamp not tightened sufficiently or surface is unsuitable. | Re-tighten the desk clamp securely to a stable, non-slippery surface. Ensure the clamp is fully engaged. |
